[Archive] How to make Dwarf slaves

Nicodemus:

I’ve had it in mind for a while that I’d like a unit of ~20 slaves… Dwarf slaves! Only problem is that none of the Dwarf models available, aside from slayers, look like they would make convincing slaves - way too much armour, etc.

I’d welcome any suggestions for making some Dwarf slaves. In my mind they would be wearing rags or just be shirtless. I know the slayer from BFSP would be a good start, but he’s just 1 model. Where should I start? Convert something that’s already available? Start from scratch?

I’m worried that I may have to scrap this idea for a unit entirely.

Yeah, Slayers are a good choice, but expensive.

Don’t know this feller’s size, but it could work:

[TMP] Assassin's Dwarf Berserker

Will see what else I can find, but my comp is slooowwwwwww today

He's actually pretty darn good. As the page says - very dynamic pose... although I can imagine him and a twin pulling something by big heavy chains in that pose. I think based on the pose and the price I'm not inclined to fill out a unit with this guy.

I really like that his beard is cut super short. That's what I imagine all my Dawi Zharr would be doing with their Dwarf slaves anyway - lopping off their beards to humiliate them... bwa ha ha :hat off

Baggronor:

From a modelling perspective I would say Doomseekers, as they are near naked and already have chains. However that is likely to prove unwise for the wallet.

A unit of shaved Dwarfs! :o Such evil!

warh:

i would go with some of the west wind miniatures

i think the axe mens fits best

RoguePanda:

Good luck with this, I think it’ll look great once you’ve got them all modelled up. I know your thinking of rags and things, but I’m wondering if there is another way to model them? I mean, enslaving normal dwarves and breaking them to the level where they would fight for our own side would be really hard… unless some Hashut magic was involved?

Just as a few ideas -

“Forgebound” - literally wrap the dwarves in living chains from hashuts forge (greenstuff), that forcibly move them about - total slavery as they can’t control the simplest movement. This has the advantage you can model this over normal dwarf armour. And with some painting they could look white or red hot in places when the chains get really angry…

“Dishonoured Ancestors” - the spirits of dead dwarves from one of the fallen holds brought back into their armour as slaves - some head swaps with the warhammer Zombie regiments might work here, along with the arms and things… might be a little too undead in theme, but it might be fun.

“Sworn to Greed” - I can’t quite find the words for this one, but I am thinking almost making them a parody of normal slaves -covered completely in bling armour, these dwarves are totally lost in their own lust for gold… and the magical gold only stays if they fight on our side? If anyone has read the David Eddings series “The Belgariad” they might recognise the idea, as I pinched some of  it from the blood red gold the bad guys use to make people spy for them.

Good luck, and I can’t wait to see the final products. :cheers

Fequiil:

what about using halflings(LOL), cause they are like dwarfs without beards, or runes, or any kind of good thing… which makes them perfect slaves…L O l!!!

Nicodemus:

"Forgebound"
"Dishonoured Ancestors"
"Sworn to Greed"

RoguePanda
RoguePanda!! Now you're talking. :hat off I love all of them. I had kind of envisioned something like a cross between Forgebound and Sworn to Greed... although any of the above would let them keep their armour which is a nice idea and saves heaps of conversion work ;P

I have come across the same problem for my dwarf slaves, i will be using common goblin legs, filled down chaos marauder torsos and arms(the wrist bands are a perfect start for shackles)and dwarf heads from the 6th edition plastic dwarfs as these are easy to “shave”.these dishonoured dwarfs will be naked from the waist up, but still musclebound as if working in the daemon forges of hashut, you could mount 4 of them on a regement base all chained together with fine jewellery chain
