[Archive] How to paint cavalry figures...?

Blue in VT:

So…I need advice…again…:~

How do you paint your Cav…Rider and mount separate? or assembled?

I recently came into a group of old metal Goblin Wolf riders that will be joining my CD warband…these guys are in MINT condition meaning that the riders still have their tabs. I’m tempted to mount them before painting in case their legs need to be be “adjusted” (ie bent) to fit them to their mounts…what would you do?

I suppose I could cut the tabs…fit them…then separate and paint by pinning the tabless rider to a cork or something…?

I’m obviously mostly a dwarf player as I’m baffled by cav…:hat off

Cheers,

My first several attempts was together. No more. It’s too hard to get the detail that you need, so paint them separate and then glue them later.

I definately suggest mount and rider seperate, especially chaos knights with shields

Hashut’s Blessing:

As said, it’s easier to do them separately - just like shields.

However, I recommend doing as you’ve asked and dry-fitting them before you get on with the painting - don;t want your hard work to scratch off.

Bolg:

I painted most of my 30+ wolfboys separate as that is best way to go. and yes do dry fit then (and pin them in place)

G.2:

I have managed to paint cavalary fairly successfully with the rider attached to his mount. I had not choice,as I bought them 2nd hand, and they were glued together. My only problem with is the transport of a rider and mount to any games I may participate in the future. So from now on, I will be painting them seperately and attaching them using magnets (or pins).

Ok great…thanks ya’ll the fit and pin method seems to be the way to go for me…its hard for me to cut the tabs off old OOP marauders though…even if they are Cav…it just goes against my instinct…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
