This may be a stupid question with an easily found answer but I haven’t frequented this forum in a while and only recently started catching up on all the big news and amazing creations I had been missing while away.
I was wondering if someone could tell me the current status or word on the Indy GT list. I am huge fan of that list and had some awesome daemoneater conversions, one from Doomwheel and and if anyone remembers my Chaos Dwarf Megadon. Now that 8th edition is out, Storm of Magic coming, and lots of big new things coming from Warhammer Forge, I was wondering if a new version of the Indy GT ‘Dwarves of Chaos’ book was in the works. I figured it might be on hold to see how sufficient the WF armylist will be.
If this question is answered already, could someone direct me to the right places?
Thanks!!

I think a lot of the impetus went out of the development process when 8th came out, because I know Matt wasn’t a fan of the changes it made to Warhammer. There has been an 8th Edition FAQ for it though, which you should be able to find a link to in the Rules Development forum (it’s in the thread that’s almost exactly the same as this one…).
As to whether there’s a plan to update in the light of the WF rules? Well, I can’t speak for the authors, but it would seem a bit pointless. With official rules on the horizon, expending effort on keeping a fanlist up to date is a little futile. I know I’ve finished developing mine anyway.

I do love the customizability in the draft of your list I had read.
Ive always been a huge fan of things like vehicle rules and tyranid creation charts, and the generic daemon adversaries of the old Daemonhunters. That was the real hobby spirit that has been lost in the White Dwarfs and armylists of recent years. I definitely am seeing a return to this thinking in recent releases like Storm of Magic and the Grey Knights super customizable henchmen, and I’m loving that.
So don’t think that your work has gone unappreciated. It’s the loss of acceptability of customizing and house rules in favor of strict RAW competitive gaming (created in part by some tournament mindsets), that I think is the only reason people gravitated more towards the Indy GT PDF.
I think because it was advertised as thoroughly playtested for game balance, that allowed it to become relatively openly accepted at Indy tournaments and many Rogue Trader stores.
Of course, the GT list also featured a bunch of units with unusual game mechanics and customizability, which is hard to thoroughly playtest.
I was hoping there would be a 2nd edition/remake, because of all the glitches that needed Errata and FAQ. Some that were carried over from the RH list, like 1 wound max for single models targeted by Blunderbuss units.
My worry is that the Warhammer Forge list will be far too campaign-themed to cover the usual assortment of Chaos Dwarf daemon engines, like Collosus and things like Daemoneaters.
Then again, I’m hoping these may be covered by the new landtrain-related daemonic warmachines.

No, I didn't stop because of the Indy GT list - I stopped because of the WF rules. My book's development has continued right up until about two weeks ago, when I chose to say it was as finished as it was going to be.
In fact there has been a fair amount of uptake of my book over the last few months, which has led to quite a bit of actual playtest feedback and I know of two tournaments in Finland who are even using my rules!
But it's a moot point now, because obviously most people will use the WF rules. I'm fine with that, but it does mean that working on alternative rules is now really a waste of effort, except for the purposes of personal amusement (which is not a bad thing, per se...). I would imagine the Indy GT book authors feel the same way. I could be wrong, but their objective was always to get Chaos Dwarfs being used in tournaments, and it seems like latching onto the WF list is a better way of promoting that aim anyway.
CheTralfara:
But there is so much more territory to explore!
Storm of Magic has opened the doors to a fantasy Apocalypse or Legendary Battles. The website talks about monstrous formations and we’ve now got wizards with “super heavy” cataclysmic spells.
So why not take it upon ourselves to expand the Chaos Dwarf empire into Collossal daemon-engine territory!
I’m sure a good portion of the imaginative units created by the CDO community won’t be covered by Warhammer Forge, and I could almost bet we’ll start seeing Fantasy equivalents of Apoc Datasheets following the release of Storm of Magic.
Who wouldnt love to use converted homemade unit’s like Ishkur’s massive mechanical Tauran weapons platform to hold back the onslaught of monsters we’ll be seeing on the SoM tabletop.
The new Tomb Kings armybook features descriptions of massive animated constructs like the Hieroscorpion of Khemri, and is full of paintings with creatures like Bone Dragons, gigantic Skeletal Beasts the size of mammoths, and Liche Priests mounted on top of dragon-sized flying Giant Carrion. The first 2-page painting even has Skeletal Steeds with golden heavy barding, and a regiment of extra-elite Tomb Guard clad in highly ornate Heavy Armour.
I’ve already started modeling conversions for many of these creatures, and hope to make a supplemental PDF for using them on the battlefield.
Why shouldn’t we do the same kind of thing in addition to the WF Chaos Dwarfs?

the indy list was great but is about to be superseeded by wf list. it was good it was a nice filler till now
mattbird:
Hey all, as stated above, I have pretty much dropped out of Warhammer. I agree with Richard and others- the new Forge World list supersedes the Indy book, so I don’t imagine Kevin will be updating it.

If the lessons of the past have taught us anything it's dont depend on GW to maintain up to date army rules for Chaos Dwarfs. If you like the Indy GT list then up date it for 8th edition it's easy to do. We have been using the Indy list in the local hobby stores in my area.
I changed the rules for blunderbusses in the Indy GT list using the basic rules for shooting in the rule book instead , with an added special shooting attack that uses the rules from RH. This has worked out well since most players are familiar with these rules.
My point is until GW establishes a complete set of rules for all your CD army models feel free to use what has been made available now and build upon it if you like. You dont have to depend on GW for an army list anymore. (which is why I think they are doing something now) :hat

i used the indy list at a tourniment this last week and speaking to another player who was running chaos dwarfs as well he was telling me that choas dwarfs in the wf book with part of the warriors of chaos list not a stand alone list . speaking to some mates who run a few tourniment weekends i will be hopeing when they write there player packs from now it will stay with the indy list . i have seen the errata i had a link to it somewhere its finished enough
if the wf list it just part of a bigger army i dont think i can be used on its own outside of firendly games

I only played Tommy’s list once but I played the Indy GT list quite extensively. But to each of you I offer many thanks of countless hours of enjoyment from both myself and my opponents. Many oathbreakers have been held accoutable for their transgressions and many other impure races have felt the will of Hashut thanks to your efforts. I’ve really enjoyed the work you put into your writing and I hope you don’t think it was ever wasted (because it wasn’t!!). Cheers guys!:cheers
