[Archive] Indy GT or RH

Thorwick:

I can’t decide what would be better to use. I know the RH list is official but IMO I like the Indy GT list better. I really don’t know which one to use.

cornixt:

Since you like it better, and if your group doesn’t mind, use the Indy GT list.

Bolg:

I can only anser for myself.

I love the Indi list, but I’m a tournament player, so no non-GW models and no indi list for me. but I might play a few friendly games using the indi list i I get around to it for sure.

hope this helps.

Vash:

in my group, we have scraped the RH lists a long time ago (back when wood elves were released), i once tried to convince them so i could use the old chaos dwarf list, but no one really liked the idea.

i’ve been playing with the indy list a lot lately and it’s quite nice list to play with. but you’re opponent has to agree on it… luckely for me, no one minds that i use the list.

wallacer:

The GT list is a lot more fun to play with and provides a lot more tactical variation.

If you’re not ineterested in tournaments and your casual games are against people who aren’t likely to be bothered by the Indy GT list then i’d go with that.

Thorwick:

If I wanted to play in a tournament, would i be able to organize using the Indy Gt with the organizer or is the list very unofficial. I was also flicking through the notes in the list and it said conflict said the list was official, which is the tournament I would go in if I did go in one. The people I play with wouldn’t mind if I used the Indy Gt list, they let me us the rules to field a gnoblar horde which was in a white dwarf.

Thommy H:

Unsurprisingly, only the organisers of a tournament can tell you whether they will allow a certain army list (or anything else, for that matter) in their tournament and, similarly, only your gaming group can tell you whether they’ll play against it.

So, it comes down to which you prefer, and which your opponents will allow. Not much point asking an internet forum full of strangers, to be honest.

Swissdictator:

Both have their pluses. The Indy GT list has more variety, including marauder era figures. Plus a nice special unit.

There are things I like a bit more in the RH list (Death Rocket, Shaker, and normal hero level casters).

I think the Indy GT list works better in the modern environment (not that you can’t win with RH, I have… many times, even Best Overall and doing well in 'ard boyz). Downside is: Opponents won’t be familiar (less so than RH!) which might be a tactical advantage… but might lead to some grumbles. Not all events allow it, so getting use to it alone might hurt you as well.

RH is official, and pretty much legal. If you’re lucky like me all events around you will approve it. While it is perhaps a bit weaker than the Indy GT list it will hone your skills and has some small bonuses (ld 10 heroes!).

Both have their advantages. I say, personally, play what you enjoy. If your group likes the Indy GT list and are more cool with it than RH… I say go Indy GT. I’d keep an eye on what tournaments are saying. Find a friend or two willing to play vs the RH list to keep your experience with that honed. Same goes vice versa.

Bassman:

Said that I do not play the Indy GT, I really like the Ravenin’ Hordes list. Yes, options are limited and you can build three or four lists then you’re done, but making list is not the only part of the game. IMO the greastest part is to actually USE your list and RH is a real challenge.

Have fun with both!

Gar Shadowfame:

RH is official, and pretty much legal.
Aint true animore, GW said earlier that year they will not support CD revening hordes, and one cant play with RH on GW tournaments.

Thommy H:

They said no such thing, and tournaments will support whichever army lists they want. It’s down to the organisers of said tournaments and, contrary to the received wisdom of the internet, the powers that be in GW do not exercise such close control over their events that what is allowed in them can be used as a barometer for “legality” in the game as a whole.

Only you and the other people playing the game with you can decide what is legal. Never let anyone tell you otherwise.

cornixt:

CDs were supported in the GW tournaments in the US this year. GW haven’t stated anything else about them.

Thommy H:

Anyway, the “legality” of the Ravening Hordes list is kind of a moot point anyway, since a fan-made list is always going to more illegal than something GW actually wrote, even if they no longer support it in their tournaments.

Border Reiver:

The rules are what you and your opponent agree they are.
