[Archive] Invasion Kenosha II tournament report

Swissdictator:

Invasion Kenosha was a 1k tournament in Kenosha, WI. Games were on 4x4 tables.

I took the Skaven this year, partially for something different… and partially to show some of my work off.

List
Lvl 2 Plague Priest (General)
Blade of Nurglitch
Foul Pendent

20 Plague Monks
FC, Plague Standard

Warlock Engineer (lvl 1)
Warpstone Armor
Warp Energy Condenser

27 Clanrats (Spears, Shields)
FC
Warp Fire Thrower

20 Slaves (Spears, Shields)

Doomwheel

5 Censer Bearers

Objective involved trying to slow and hold an orb moving across the table.
He got first turn.
First turn it seemed like I had a decent shot. My doomwheel zapped 2 Terradons causing the last guy to flee.  Either first turn or second I got Warp Lightening off on the Stegadon doing some damage.

Then my dice betrayed me. On his 2nd turn his stegadon used the big blowpipes to kill my censers, which caused my clanrats to panic (I needed a 9 to not panic, I rolled a 10). I needed a 9 to stay on the board, and rolled a 10. Doom wheel misfired and finished itself after getting poisoned to hell. Not to  blame my loss on the dice, as Joe was a good player, but it probably made it easier.

I chased off his Stegadon with plague monks, but by the time I got turned around he had Krox and Saurus able to charge which finished them off.

In the end he won.

His list (off memory)
3 Terradons. Ancient Stegadon. Block of Saurus. 2 units of Skinks. Kroxigor.

Game 2 vs Paul Wagner’s Daemons

Paul’s list was rather balanced, which is hard with DoC.

11 Daemonettes (I think 11). 20 or so Horrors. 14-15 (I think) Bloodletters. Khorne herald on Juggy. Slaanesh herald on foot. My memory is fuzzy on exact numbers.

The scenario was kinda funky. 7 turns. Turn 1 you can only move (no march). Deployment was a 12" square in the corners. Turns 1-6 (top of turn, not both players turns) the unit within 12" of the center (closest if more than one) disappeared.  If a unit had previously vanished in such a fashion, they reappear where the (now newly vanished unit) was facing the same direction. I sacraficed slaves to this early on, and set up censers so they’d have a rear charge if he advanced. On bottom of 5 I moved by warp fire thrower up to be swapped for the slaves.

Most of the game we spent outside the 12", but turn 5 I moved up (setting it up so I’d lose my warp fire thrower).

Early on the wheel had snaked around. It got charged by the Khorne herald, I did a wound, but fled and didn’t rally.

Turn 7 he charged the slaves which fled by choice.

The Daemonettes enemy in the way into the clanrats. The bloodletters are left in the middle of the field. Daemonettes lose by 2, but make their instability. The bloodletters are flank charged by the plague monks and censer bearers and are overcome.

Game 3 vs VC

This was an interesting scenario where core units might come back, but that rule didn’t come into effect in our game.

Vampire
Sword of Battle, Flayed Hauberk
Dark Acolyte, Lord of the Dead

Necro w/ 2 spells (Invoc and Vanhel’s)
Necro w/ 2 spells (Invoc and Vanhel’s)

20 kellies, FC, Spears

10 Skellies, FC

20 ghouls

Banshee

Guy admitted he was newer to the game, but was very polite and cool about checking things in the rules. When in doubt we diced it.

This game went well. The wheel ended up fragging his banshees, and a base of spirit host generated by wind of undeath.

Meanwhile the censers hurtled forward and slammed into a skellie unit with necro and wipe out the necromancer. Though they slay themselves as well, they ended up taking out a necro and a generated base of spirit host in the end.

The whole game he didn’t have the best luck with magic and I was able to shut down quite a few that I needed to. Plus I was able to pick and choose what I stopped and didn’t. Having played VC a lot in the past really helped.

Plaguemonks charged into vampires unit and did quite a bit of damage. This lasts a few round of combats, I lose my champion in a challenge. His 2nd skellie unit charges in, priest proceeds to carve them up nicely. His invocations don’t do much, but heal a wound on the vampire.

Doomwheel manages to come in and help finish them off, while warp fire thrower cooks some ghouls clanrats and they’re subsequently charged by . Vamp dies to crumble (now without a unit).  Game is won.

Overall a good time. I had a blast.

Edit:

Everyone got a random Avatars of War figure as part of a grab bag for entering. For that I got a Dark Elf Hero (which I was happy to get, as I love the figure and can use him). Also, for each game you won (+1 for entering the event) you got a raffle ticket. In that raffle I ended up winning a Dark Elf Sorceress (which I also really wanted as I needed a 2nd one). So I made out like a bandit… considering it was $15 US for entry…
