I am looking over my army and I kinda want to add some Ironsworn but are they worth it if you compare to “normal” Infernal Guard? It’s either them with… something or a BIG unit of IG with Fireglaives for fancies. The unit would probably be lead by a Dark Castellan BSB.
Although they are good (basically slightly better Infernal guard) they take up special points which are probably better spent on anything else. You have to take your core anyway so you will already have Infernal guard which essentially do the same job.
I really think Ironworn should have been a 0-1 core choice.
so i used to think u can fill ur core with 2 big block of 50 hobgobilins and 20 goblin archers.
then u can take a squad of ironsworn in ur special.
but what u have to know is, doing this means u lose about 550 pts in special, so if u still want to use cannons, there will be no k’daai fireborn maybe.
if u want to build a list aiming at close combat, it’s a good choice i think. even not as good as chaos warriors and chosen, ironsworn is still the best heavy infantry in wfb i think.
Maybe his conception of the Chaos Dwarf army is based upon older source material that referenced Daemons, but did not specifically deal with binding them for use on the table top? Just because some new guy makes up some rubbish and sticks it in a book doesn’t mean that everybody has to implement it into their armies.
I plan to make both Fireborn and a Destroyer for my army. Doesn’t mean that I would look down on another collector/gamer for deciding against them in his collection/army.
As far as I know, it is only relatively recently that Daemonsmiths have been introduced. Previously they were just lower level Sorcerers without the re-roll ability for warmachines? I could be off-base here.
Daemon curtains sound pretty sweet actually. Bind lesser daemons into the fabric and they can liven things up in the living room without causing too much trouble.

good one, that got a chuckle out of me. :)
I have never used Ironsworn myself, never found them that useful. I would much rather put the points into infernal Guard.
On a more serious note. I have yet to try them. but as I have lost faith in the Kadaai I do want to try them out. S5 with Parry save does sound promising.
( I totally agree they should have been a 0-1 core choice but hey )
i think there a good choice if your playing a large game 3000 points or so, I’m not a big fan of the kdaii and there are only so many war machines you wud want to take. i also like big units of infantry and its hard to get them with are list so this is a good way of getting another block and apart from the death rocket and magma cannon i think they corse the most damage and are the most reliable choice in are special choices.
Still in the process of collecting my army, then have to spend a few months painting it…but is there really a limit to the number of warmachines that you would try to fit in? I remember the old days (third time collecting this army doh!) of lining up as many Earthshakers as possible and laying waste to things before they get to move. Then they crawl across the field because of the snare effect getting shelled into oblivion.
Specifically relating to this thread: I am planning on making a unit of Ironsworn and can’t figure out what they are there for in the list. 17 points for a 1 attack Str 5 model seems pretty bad. Is there a reason to take away from special points allotment for these guys? Even if one doesn’t want to use Kadai, they can take Bull Centaurs or several different warmachines all of which seem vastly superior to the Ironsworn. Weird army list compared to the other new ones. Maybe due to the fact that it is from Forgeworld?

Usually I field 2 death rockets, a magma cannon and maybe an earthshaker, depending on the scale of the coming battle.
On the topic of ironsworn, I used to field them a lot, because what their statline doesn’t tell you on paper, is that these guyz are next to impossible to shift… They’re awesome at stubbornly holding whatever point of the line you place them on… Recently however, I have foregone the defence (ie the ironsworn), and have started to play more on the offence (7 BC with tauruk, backed up by my destroyer). Fireborn are also a waste of points, except if you’re going to field 6+.
Just by curiosity, how does Fireborn can’t be part of a CD army fluffwise?

My Sorcerer Prophet is far away from The Citadel most of the time (No he doesn’t participate in rituals and meetings) in slave raids against Skaven and I can’t imagen him having the materials needed to build/summon K’daai and the ones he had at the start are burnt out by now.
