[Archive] Is it worth giving up my Empire for?-Too late! ;)

theforgefather:

Hello,

As you may know, I have a collection of empire, about 2200pts.

Since this image i have added 5 more knights and painted lots more.

I want to continue doing Fantasy, but I am getting bored with Empire.

So I ask you this:

Should I sell my Empire and get Chaos instead (Warriors or Dwarfs).

As much as I want to get LoA CD’s, but it costs over £40!! (THE BOOK)

So if I do sell the empire, should I proxy CD’s as Warriors of Chaos (rules), just do WoC, face the stupid prices that Forge World brings, or proxy??

Please tell me what you think, as I probably need a second opinion on this.

I do have £45 spare at the moment, but I am saving up for the next Chaos Marines codex when it comes out, and the next edition of 40k.

Thanks

Theforgefather

I’m partial to not selling if there’s no immediate need. At least I would always regret it.

You just won’t get from it what you gave and since you probably liked them once, odds are you’ll want to go back at some point.

Da Crusha:

Of course you should sell the Empire, no sacrifice is too big for a legion of chaos dwarfs!

MLP:

I think proxying chaos dwarfs in any army is hard, not many armies seem to have the right mix of units on similar base sizes.

If you like Warriors of Chaos then the Tamurkhan book will definitely be worth it not just for the LoA list.

I think selling an army to collect another is normally a bad idea, unless you really dislike that army. You need something to play with while you’re building your new army! I can’t see your pic at the moment but if your army is mostly painted to a good standard then you will likely regret selling at some point down the line.

Chaos Dwarf armies will tend to be a little more expensive than others but not by much, these days the prices arent far off each other. Also the army tends to be smaller requiring less models therefore less money spent!

If you want to save money with LoA buy units which have a good cost/points ratio for your army. I’m not sure what is good value though, maybe I’ll do some calulations.

EDIT: Using the models available from forgeworld and GW using rough math with no options on units:

All results in Points per Pound

Drazhoath(Lord on Bale taurus) 9.1

Bale taurus 3.5

Daemonsmiths 25.8

3 Infernal Guard Comd 4.25

10 Infernal Guard 3.3

10 Infernal Guard Fireglaives 4.7

20 (Hob)goblins 5.0

3 Kdaii Fireborn 4.6

Deathshrieker 3.1

Magma Cannon 3.8

Iron Demon 5.9

Skullcracker 5.3

10 wolf raiders 6.0

Dreadquake 2.7

Hellcannon 5.3

So from these results for the cheapest legal army you should have:

Lord: Lord on bale taurus

Hero: 3 Castellan/Demonsmiths

Core: Hobgoblins, Infernal Guard with Fireglaives(no comd)

Special: Iron Demon, kdaii Fireborn

Rare: Wolf Raiders, Hellcannon

Not the worst army list I’ve seen to be honest.

Admiral:

I wouldn’t sell them if there is no pressing need to do so. You could use the Chaos Dwarfs as Dwarf proxies.

theforgefather:

My Empire is 1/2 painted, but every model has some paint on.

I am really getting bored of empire, however, a steampunk-engineer army is an idea that I would love, so could just sell part of the army and keep some stuff.

theforgefather:

I’m probably going to sell them so i can get some FW CD’s

theforgefather:

could I use this bull taurus as a bale taurus?

Just curious because it is £30 less than the FW one, and technically it is a GW taurus, rather than a FW one, so in theory it is more “legal” (if you get what I mean) than a FW bile taurus.

theforgefather
the problem with that is that the great taurus has rules and is alot smaller.

theforgefather:

I know, but it is a (recast) classical model, which would be a great collectable in an army. If that doesn’t work, I could just green stuff more “bulk” onto it…

cornixt:

The only big issue is if it might be confusing or give an advantage. If you only have one flying bull in your army then it’s easy to tell your opponent before the battle if it is a Great Taurus or a Bale Taurus.

theforgefather:

Well, most of the people that I normally game are okay with certain proxies, such as in 1 game of storm of magic, we just used empire state troops (4 of them) for trolls, or rat ogres and nobody actually cared. So as long as I am playing someone that wants a game, not someone that is there to be picky about the models in my army (the people I avoid gaming), I think it would be alright, and I don’t play tournaments, so there is really no reason why I wouldn’t be allowed a bull taurus.

theforgefather:

Oh, and another reason for planning to sell my empire, is that they were made to introduce me to fantasy, so I want to get a more competitive now.

beefcake:

If you have any sentimental value to them at all I wouldn’t sell them. I “got out” of the hobby a while back and sold a tonne of my stuff. Now I wish a lot of that stuff I had held on to. I kept most of the stuff I began the hobby with and I’m glad I didn’t get rid of it. However if you have absolutely no sentimental attachment, get rid of it, more money for cool new miniatures.

I had some empire stuff but also quickly grew bored with it. It’s just not fantasy enough for my liking.

Too late:

Marduk:

Well done.

I hope you raise enough money for your copy of Tamurkhan.

G.2:

Good luck on those auctions. I am sure some Empire general will be interested in your stuff.
