[Archive] K'Daai Destroyer conversion(2)

Singleton Mosby:

Since I’ve included a K’daai Destroyer in my list and am going to use it in a local league I of course had to have a model to represent him.

Thus I looked through my bitbox and found the CD Llamassu which wasn’t going to do anything else anyways. Thus I took of the wins and liberally decked his back, tail and head with flames. First attempt so I hope they will work out properly once I am going to paint them.

Here are some first shots.

And yes, he’s grabbed a burning Goblin fanatic and is now draging it with him. :hat
Not very visible at the moment but he’ll be once painted as he wil stand out due to the colors.

fairoaks024:

very inventive take on the destroyer, the green stuff work looks superb, i think it’ll really look the

part when painted,

jim

Skink:

Yeah, wath fairoaks024 says. The flames look epic!

Ghrask Dragh:

Wow great work, nice job on the flames. Will he have any armour too?

What colours you thinking of? all flames or different colour skin?

Chico:

I really like it, my only thought is that its a tad too small. Impressive work none the less.

Karring:

Nice base and nice conversión.

PD: CDO forums will become famous for green stuff flames conversions…

Singleton Mosby:

Thanks a lot for all the nice comments lads. :hat off

Didn’t really thought about that. In my mind a K’Daai is just a blazing monster so that’s what I made him.

I will paint the skin as it mostly is painted, black with grey-blueish highlights. But then paint all the fur on his back and neck, and of course the added ones, like flames. In that way he will be fiery from his head to his tail.

Agreed, a K’Daai should be larger. But this way I could keep my army more or less composed of the orginal models.

Singleton Mosby:

I’ve now undercoated it and done a first few layers of the flames. Not entirely happy yet but I will keep fiddling with them.

Also made some small lava pools on the base and some more flames as now the halberd is on fire as is the arm of the unfortunate soldier lying underneath the destroyer.
Just decided to give him flaming eyebrows as well ;). Not sure about the color of his beard though, black will be ok but perhaps another color which makes it stand out.

Edit: hmmm, the pics are terrible. Well…

Chico:

That’s going to look amazing when its all done

CopperPot:

Looking good dude.

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Mad Dave:

Nice work

The fire looks awesome!

Good job.

Singleton Mosby:

I’ve got a bit more painting done since last time. Still very much WIP but I thought I should share as I need some advice.

The flames should have been done by now but I am not happy with them. Thought they were ok last time but still I went back to them and applied some more layers as I wanted the different colors to blend a bit more. Things got worse with every new layer and now it is just f***ed up.

I am not sure what to do now. On one hand I want to put on new layers of white/yellow to red to re-create the flames as they were. On the other hand I hope varnishing it with shiny varnish will mend it a bit. Anybody got an idea what’s best to do, or perhaps another way of getting them better?

After I have ‘saved’ the flames I need some tidying up to do and paint the clothing of the guy on the ground. Then it is time to varnish and continue with the big base.

I like the Destroyer’s (/Lammasu’s) face though.

beefcake:

Looks cool. Maybe some flames sculpted from the eyes and mouth would have enhanced it’s fieryness further. I like the ashen body.

Singleton Mosby:

Continued work on the K’Daai. Redid all of the flames as I wasn’t happy at all with them. They are better now but not as good as they were before I started medling with them the first time. Also finished the body, the goblin and the dying soldier.
Next thing is the remainder of the base. I am thinking of painting the dead body in front light blue with white as to contrast with the dark base and the yellow of the flames. The hatching dragon will be green-purplish.

Some pictures:

Here are some shots of the detail.
The goblin underneath which is grabbed by the monster’s right paw and dragged with him as he charges at the same time swinging him through the air.

A dying soldier, able to lift his shield as if to ward him from the attack of the creature standing on his leg, but barely. He’s wounded and the K’Daai’s fire has burned him in several palces.
