[Archive] Lazy GW posing

Grimstonefire:

Looking at these guys in WD I was struck by how lazy the sculpting/ posing has been on them.

Most models that are ranked in large blocks, the top half of them is all that really matters imo.  Sure it’s nice to have super detailed models generally, but when all of them have almost identical heads, or heads that are almost identically posed it just looks silly imo.

It’s made even worse when the weapons are all held the same way.  I know, reading the design notes, that the guy was heavily limited in terms of the angle of the bodies, but why not have some looking left, or up, or have the topknot thing flowing in a different direction for some??

With the Executioners if they’d had half the heads looking left they could have twisted the arms around more and have them hold in the blade facing the front edge of the base.

Black guard, why not have some holding Halberds in both hands…?

Just strikes me as really lazy which is a damn shame as they are cool models imo.  They’ve done this a few times of late with the HE as well (maybe bestigors as well) and it’s just a shame.  Give me old metal poses any day.

Nicodemus:

Had he exact same thoughts when I saw these… Great models indvidually, gut as a group… Yawn. Reminds me of the old plastic mono pose models.

gIL^:

Those heads on those Executioners could make nice slaaneshi themed infernal guard.

Bloodbeard:

This reminds me of the good old days! All looking the same. My favourite back then was the black orc and the skaven!

Imagine a horde of these new elves. Pretty boring job to paint them all.

Yodrin:

The models look really nice imo. Agree on the pose, but it should be an easy task to glue some halberds pointing forward on the BG.

Hashut’s Blessing:

This was the problem I had with the old metal regiments - dozens of monopose warriors. All stood in the same stance looks silly: it’s why I didn’t get those kinda models back in the day, even though I understood the limitations.

Here, it is lazy design brief/trying to save money by cutting corners. There’s pretty much no variation, so make one model, place it in a mold ten times and you have a sprue…

Admiral:

My brother noted similar things. One thing is for sure, the old Executioners were superior in every aspect bar material. It’s virtually a crime to not attempt to make plastic sprue copies. The old ones are that good.

Willmark:

But hey they are cool because they are large an imposing! Snicker…

mireadur:

Its pure extortion asking those price for essentially monopose models. I wont even get into the ‘‘dual kit’’ deal where one of the 2 units completely loses its soul.

Fuggit Khan:

How ironic that the GW ‘undead’ models are more lively in their poses than these guys…

cornixt:

This kind of miniature is essentially the worst kind. It’s the illusion of choice without any. It’s a monopose unit that you have to assemble. I’m not even sure why they bother reusing the body - actually I do, it’s purely business, fewer different boxes on the shelves saves money. They could have made two different boxes with entirely different bodies and only the bits for that unit type. The units would have looked much better next to each other on the battlefield and production costs would have been slightly lower. So we get a worse product for stock reasons.

And the heads being practically identical, eurgh, might aswell just buy one model and duplicate it. The models themselves look really good, but as a unit they become so dull. GW is being eaten alive by other manufacturers who are beating them on cost and whose armies look more "real"m, this is just another nail in the coffin.

gIL^:

You cant even repose the heads because of the crazy hair all perfectly styled!

The warhammer world doesn’t seem to have wind.

Their pricing policy has completly gone out of the window. Black Guard are £30 but the witch elves who are CORE are £35, If you had 20 maybe but no you get 10!

£3.50 each for a plastic mini, Is that the new high?

Warhammer has become quite unreasonably priced.

Zanthrax:

Poses are pretty ordinary and the price confirms that points value and if the unit is special equals higher purchase price.

I like the gamezone dark elves and think their prices are reasonable since they are metal.

There for Id rather buy a troop of FW IGs :D

Willmark:

I think GW is finally hitting the wall. The fallout will be interesting to say the least.

snowblizz:

I’m have to agree to being disappointed a bit by the lack of posability of the new DE. he old Executioners also look badass with their thinner swords. These new ones look like something a silly human Chaos worshipper did. The less said about the helmet the better.

The BG are a bit better but mostly because they are the kit that works. Wouldn’t mind having guys doing something with their halberds. For crying out loud, the old metals were more dynamic than these! Besides really boring with the I don’t know what to do with my fist poses. Finally got the new WD and they were explaining about the extra bit on the BG to differentiate them. Except you literally can’t see it from the front. Would work better on the Excutioners maybe as they are less top heavy.

All in all, this release is really giving me vibes from the olden days where they couldn’t do as much with plastic. That GW manages to regress the development AND raise their prices is quite befuddling to me.

Really fun it gets when you read how they are trying to explain how there’s so many parts in the kit. Except you can’t really DO anything with them. Like the Spearmen/Swrd/xbow kit. Despite the large number of pieces you’re not able to make anything different. They are still monopose minis!

Onyx:

Wow, even the dynamic in the monopose is non-existant in case of the halbediers. Their left arm is just dangling uselessly and even then with the back of their hands facing forward which is a completely abnormal position and would only make sense should they have shields strapped to their arms.

Really a shame as body, head and shoulders have awesome potential.

ClawLeader:

They’re just more disciplined then the rest of your weak willed miniatures. It’s not that they are monopose, through the power of endless drill they stand as one entity. Their uniformity and conformity to the values of the greater whole show true evil that the lesser races should only fear.

Duh…

Oh, I do hope they make new Empire state soldiers the same way. They have looked too much like undisciplined ragtag rabble since the old halbadiers!

Conformity - it's the one that's different who dies!

mireadur:

the BG musician is specially funny (read outrageous), his pose partially sideways and his left arm are exactly the same as those of this 10 comrades… he doesnt look too eager to make some noise with the instrument after all…
