Centaur Tau’ruk 215pts -( Blackshard Armour, Great Weapon, Other Trickster’s Shard, Dragonhelm, Luckstone)
- This guy has a 1+ AS (with a one time re-roll) and I intend to use him as a mage hunter/monster killer.
Core
(20)Infernal Guard 340pts -(Full Command, Great Weapons, Banner of Eternal Flame)
- This unit is 20 strong just in case I roll the watchtower scenario. In any other scenario the Prophet goes here in a 7x3 formation. Just to add more to the Watchtower thing, this unit re-rolls to wound thanks to the BoEF and with the hatred spell will be able to re-roll to hit as well! Nasty.
- A rock solid anvil with a 3+AS/ 6+ WS (in combat). In any sceanario but the Watchtower the unit deploys 7x5 with the Infernal Castellan in here. In the Watchtower scenario the unit deploys 6x6 with boith characters in here.
Special
(7) Bull Centaurs 390pts (Full Command, Great Weapon, Banner of Swiftness)
- This unit smashes into things were the IG shouldn’t go, like Chaos Warriors, and acts as a dependable hammer in any other situation.
Magma Cannon 145pts
-Take this thing!
Deathskrieker Rocket 100pts
- And this while your at it.
Iron Daemon 315pts -(Skullcracker upgrade)
- This is the “Hobgoblin” tarpit in my list, I wanted to use all CD units so HG were out of the question unfortunatley. The standard ID is pretty good, however one bad roll for the thunderstomp/impact hits and it can all go wrong. The Skullcracker upgrade helps to mitigate this.
Rare
K’Daii Destroyer “Buttercup” 325pts
- I can’t see a list without one to be honest, I love this beast so much that I’ve named her "Buttercup"
Hellcannon 205pts
- This is one of my favourite models in the whole GW line, I couldn’t not take one.
Total: 3000pts
I think I have the point costs right, I don’t actually have the book yet so sorry if they are incorrect.
I’d give your prophet a ward save in case he miscasts or gets in to combat.
I tried 20 great weapon infernal guard and they were surprisingly good.
7 is an odd number for bull centaurs. Does the taar’ruk go in there? If not, drop the unit to 6 to afford the ward save for the prophet.
Magma cannon and deathshrieker are excellent. I usually run mine with a daemonsmith for added reliability.
I tried an iron daemon but not a skullcracker. Let us know how it gets on!
Destroyer is excellent. Hellcannon also.
A solid list I think. I’d only be concerned about having a big unit of infernal guard with both characters in. It’s deathstar size but not deathstar survivability.
@ Nilbog; The Taar’uk does go in the 7man unit, I intend to use him like a mini sniper who just charges in and kills a BSB/ mage with ease. I will drop a BC however, as once he is gone there is little point having the other BC in the unit.
@Grimbold; I’am worried about the lack of deployment drops as you say, but I think this is a weakness as a whole if I’m perfectly honest.
With only 6 deployments and no throw-away units, I think this army list is destined for failure. Sorry =(
My Dwarfs have 4 deployments and no expendable units. Doesn't stop them tabling people horribly. True, you won't be able to outdeploy anyone with 6 drops (except my Dwarfs!) but that isn't a problem if you have the tools to dictate things. Add a second Magma Cannon and this army might do.
I would drop the ID for a Daemonsmith (for the re-rolls) and more IG.
Daemonsmith 135pts (Lv1, Lore of Fire, Shield of Ptolos, Luckstone)
Core
(18)Infernal Guard 310pts (Full Command, Great Weapons, Banner of Eternal Flame)
(24)Infernal Guard 318pts (Full Command)
(17)Infernal Guard 285pts (Full Command, Great Weapons)
Special
(4)Bull Centaurs 240pts (Full Command, Great Weapons, Banner of Swiftness)
Magma Cannon 145pts
Deathskrieker Rocket 100pts
Deathskrieker Rocket 100pts
Iron Daemon 315pts (Skullcracker upgrade)
Rare
K’Daii Destroyer “Buttercup” 325pts
Hellcannon 205pts
Total: 2998pts
The list has another deployment drop, another combat block to make it less deathstarish and more reliable artillery (not to mention another DS rocket ). Please post your comments below.
I would merge the IG into 2 units of 30-ish. They are too vulnerable as units of 18 and 24. With fewer, larger units, the Castellan’s stubborn is also put to better use.
A Tau’ruk with Crown of Command and Dawnstone would make a better tarpit than the ID, and he has the option of joining the BCs to make them into a proper hammer. And he’s cheaper.
Thanks again Bagronor, I can tell you don’t like the Iron Daemon, but I’m going to be including one no matter what I’m afraid, because I just love the look of the model. I have made some changes however, I’ve buffed the size of the some of the regiments so their close to 30 strong, and dropped a few magic items.
Lords
Sorceror Prophet 340pts (Lv4 Wizard, Lore of Hashut, Talisman of Endurance, Dragon Helm)
I think you need to protect your characters a bit more. Move the enchanted shield over to the prophet to give him a 2+ then 5+ ward. You should really find the points to put the talisman of preservation on the prophet for the 4+ ward.
I’d then put a normal shield and the mask of the furnace on the castellan bsb to get a 2+ followed by a 4+ ward.
No scroll on the smith?
I don’t think you need full command on the centaurs. The standard should be enough.
You’ll have to drop some infernal guard to make the changes. Your well over the core minimum core points anyways.
Thanks for the input Time of Madness, although if you don’t mind me asking, what does the Mask of the furnace do, and how how many skaven slaves does it cost?
Oh and as for the Dispel Scroll, I haven’t used used one for months now, and to be honest I haven’t missed it. Although mind you I have been playing a TK chariot and construct heavy army, which doesn’t need magic at all to win games.
Mask of furnace is 65pts and gives you a 4+ ward. It also gives you +1 to the armour save. So if you have a shield he’d end up with the 2+ followed by a 4+ ward save. The mask also increases his ward save to 2+ against flaming attacks.
(24)Infernal Guard “The Reapers of Madness” 318 pts (7x4 wide) (Full Command)
Special
(4)Bull Centaurs “The Renders of Hashut” 240pts (Full Command, Great Weapons, Banner of Swiftness)
Magma Cannon “The Immolator” 145pts
Deathskrieker Rocket "Gaze of Hashut 100pts
Deathskrieker Rocket “Iron Rain” 100pts
Iron Daemon “Hashut’s Wrath” 285pts
Rare
K’Daii Destroyer “Buttercup” 325pts
Hellcannon- “Destroyer of Eternities” 205pts
Total: 2998pts
I’m going to keep FC on the Bull Centaurs, it might be overkill, but I’ve always loved the appearence of units with a full command group. Please leave your comments and input below.
Cheers, Ironclad.
Edit:I added some name’s to my units, I find it’s makes my games alot more fun when The “Renders of Hashut” break an enemy unit, rather than it just been a unit of vanilla Bull Centaurs.
Oh dear, thankyou for pointing that out. Is the cost of the full command more than 30pts or something similar? I thought that was standard for 8th edition books now.
Cheer, IC.
Edit: Also the Daemonsmith should be 110pts am I correct?
2nd Edit: Never mind, I’ve just noticed that the champion costs 12pts, so it looks like I’ll have to drop the champion from the bull centaurs to find the points. Here’s the updated list;
Lords
Sorceror Prophet “Baggonor Blackhammer”, “The Ironclad” 355pts (Lv4 Wizard, Lore of Hashut, Talisman of Perservation, Enchanted Shield, Ironcurse Icon)
Heroes
Infernal Castellan “Nibog The Mad” 197pts (Battle Standard, Mask of The Furnace, Shield)
Daemonsmith “Karak Hackheart”, “Herald of Azgorh” 110pts (LV1 Wizard, Lore of Fire, Charmed Shield)
Core
(18)Infernal Guard “The Fireborn” 312pts (6x3 wide) (Full Command, Great Weapons, Banner of Eternal Flame)
Sorry for the double post, but I made some changes to my list;
Lords
Sorceror Prophet, “Baggonor Blackhammer”,“The Ironclad” 355pts (Lv4 Wizard, Lore of Hashut, Talisman of Perservation, Enchanted Shield, Ironcurse Icon)
- This guy gives me access to Ld10, The Lore of Hashut, and a LV4.
Heroes
Infernal Castellan, “Nibog The Mad” 197pts (Battle Standard, Mask of The Furnace, Shield)
-2+AS, 4+WS yes please. (Thanks to Time of Madness for these combo’s)
Daemonsmith, “Karak Hackheart”,“Herald of Azgorh” 125pts (LV1 Wizard, Lore of Fire, Charmed Shield, Dispel Scroll)
-Although I haven’t used the Dispel Scroll for some time, I’ve included one as it’s been useful in every game I have used it.
Core
(24)Infernal Guard “The Fireborn” 320 pts (5x5 wide, led by Infernal Castellan) (Full Command, Banner of Eternal Flame)
(24)Infernal Guard “The Obsidian Guard” 320 pts (5x5 wide, led bySorceror Prophet) (Full Command)
- Two really nice rock solid anvils/ bunkers.
(20)Hobgoblin Cutthroats “The Gutterbellies” 122pts (Full Command, Bows)
- The “Gutterbellies” will serve as a extra deployment drop/ my garrison in the watchtower scenario, and a sort of shield for the Skullcracker from cavalry etc;
Special
(6)Bull Centaurs “The Renders of Hashut” 370pts (Full Command,Shields, Great Weapons, Banner of Swiftness)
- These form a really tough combat block/hammer, they will be sent at tough unit like Chaos Warriors.
Magma Cannon “The Immolator” 145pts
- The magma cannon helps to reduce enemy units to molten slag. :cheers
Deathskrieker Rocket “Gaze of Hashut” 100pts
Deathskrieker Rocket “Azgorh’s Doom” 100pts
-“It takes two babbbyyyyy!” Ahem sorry… The deathskriekers target big monsters that would threaten my infrantry units/cause big damage onto enemy infrantry units.
Iron Daemon “Hashut’s Wrath” 315pts (Skullcracker upgrade)
-A rock solid tarpit/anvil that can take on infrantry units on it’s own, it will be used in conjunction with The “Gutterbellies” to slowly grind down enemy units.
Rare
K’Daii Destroyer “Buttercup” 325pts
- “Buttercup” will hold one flank on her own before coming in to mop up any late game stragglers from damaged enemy units.
Hellcannon “Destroyer of Eternities” 205pts
-The hellcannon will hold the other flank to “Buttercup”, usually the side with a elevated posistion so that it can threaten as much of the battlefield as possible.
Total: 2999pts
Please post your thoughts below, I’ve streamlined the list so that I haven’t wasted so many points on core which has allowed me to include a few more Bull Centaurs etc;
Very similar to mine at 2000 points, with added hellcannon, iron daemon and another unit of IG. There’s no obvious suggestions I can make, but I remain to be convinced about the iron daemon (I’ve used one on occasion and I’ve not done brilliantly with it). Everything else looks solid.
Very strong list, i am interested to read some of your battle report to see how all this can turn in real game. Also, does anyone try to use sorcerer prophet on lammasu? Lammasu is weird but must be very interesting!
PS: for the deamonsmith, you should give the magic shield: to negate the first hit (stone thrower, cannon, fiasco) is very cool and you have a character with 3+ AS!
