So yes, I am looking for some opinions about hobgoblins. I did not want to pay an arm and a leg trying to find some. So instead I opted for an alternative in the form of:
as the hobgoblin archers on foot
and: as "wolf riders"
So my thought is that the Chaos Dwarfs would have captured good-aligned dwarfs at some point in time. Of course this would lead to forced breeding/children born/children captured. These spawn of the dwarfs would be forcefully separated, and raised as slaves, with no known knowledge of their pasts. The brainwashing and constant state of labor/training mixed with barely sustainable food would breed a sense of survival and plenty of backstabbing :h . I hate to use the example of North Korea, but there it is. I have read some lit on their prison camps and how they go about perpetuating a mentality of serving the nation by betraying their own.
Anyway, I figure those figures looked the part of those who were “honored” with a form of status in the forces of the Chaos Dwarfs. Would that about do it? Plus the models, with their light armor and bows(I can tack on spears for the horse riders) look like they would be mere fodder next to the true soldiers of the Chaos Dwarfs. I also snagged a command for each, which would allow me to convert one of each to a Khan(one on foot, one mounted)).
I’m not sure personally. My first impression was that they looked to well armed and armoured overall. But as a “counts as” set of units I can’t see why not
Well think on this, in comparison to IG, do they truly look well armored? I understand the mentality on it though. But I cannot afford to fork out 75.00 USD for 10 gits. My wife would end me! I could always come up with a different story line, but I am considering using some putty to cover the better armor with more cloth and less metal. I think that their less cared for beards and use of non-gunpowder weaponry could be a huge indicator of their status within the world of Chaos Dwarfs. Orrrr, they could be those who have failed to meet standards, and are instead conscripted into service. Would work for the animosity and lower leadership.
I think this is a brilliant idea Armond. It would be a cruel and evil plan, stealing offspring, brain washing and sending them to kill their own. The fluff do tell that all captured Vanilla Dwarfs get sacrificed to Hashut - there is no slave life for them. But that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a line of broken dwarf minions.
Another idea could be that your “hobgoblins” are actual chaos dwarves. Low castes or clans who have lost everything through political fights or other intriques. Being forced to fight and die before any of their respected kin.
Next to the all armoured forge world infernal guard - there’s no doubt these guys a weaker.

I think they are cool and always like to see original and unique armies. I’ve always loved dwarfs on Ponies too. These have a chaos marauder kind of vibe in the same way WoC have their devotees. If they are cheap then grab some and if you decide to change later on down the line then no big deal. I’m using all LOTR and Hobbit minis for mine as they are cheap and I can always change my mind later without it being a big deal. I saw ten hobgob archers go for £57 on ebay last night which is pretty ridiculous.
