No pictures yet unfortunately but this blog will hopefully track the progress of my army from nothing to a glorious throng of ultimate destruction!
a little about me
So, i am 29 and live in the UK, I am a youth unemployment advisor/employability tutor and am studying towards a degree in English Language and Literature.
I have been playing Warhammer for about 15 years on and off and in all that time have only played High Elves (including a couple of tournaments, in which i generally place middle high table). I was a little to late for the influx of Chaod Dwarf minis on the first run around, saw them on table or in White Dwarf on occasion but we couldn’t then buy them from our local GW as i remember. Fast Forward 15 years and I am (was) still playing High Elves after working through various iterations of them to the point where i thought “I am fed up with cute, pointy eared goody two shoes, i want something different!” and well, how different can you get, tall, blonde haired saviors of the old world to short, dark haired despoilers…
My plans for the army
… So, i had originally opted for the Forge World version of the Chaos Dwarfs liking their similarity to the generic chaos warrior models and being impressed by the detail captured in the Renders. I ordered a 1000pt list and the Tamurkhan book. After reading Tamurkhan and being a little under impressed with the amount of specific CD background and fluff i went out to purchase a White Dwarf presents Chaos Dwarfs book… and then i was hooked!
I had forgotten how beautiful the character models were for the original army, how individual the models looked compared to other armies available, how characterfullt he army looked as a whole.
I have now traded the force i had bought and am now awaiting the delivery of my new old army.
My plans for the army
From a list point of view i intend to eventually get at least 2 of each option available, converting where necessary. I will initially work on my List for the Throne of Skulls and then continue to buy and paint after that as items become available.
Paint wise, i want to both move away from the bright original colours of the 1990s army yet still have some, minor homage to it…
I plan on Metal being the main portion of the colour scheme, the scale mail being in bright steel with trimmings in a very light brass. red will be my main cloth colour with trims, weapon hafts and other incidental details in green. Beards will of course be as black as my dark dark soul.
I am working on a test model now and will hopefully be able to get that to you post haste.
My experience so far with blogging
Well, i must say it has not been positive. I had attempted to start blog with my previous High Elf armies, and lost interests pretty darn quick! I am going to try my hardest to update this blog as often as possible! however i am a busy man (work, study social life AND the odd commission job here and there…) so PLEASE bare with me!
Thank you for reading my initial post, I know long walls of text are pretty boring! hopefully i will have some pictures soon to interest you!
I absolutely agree Herby… I don’t wish to spend a load of money and time converting models up to be hobgoblins when i KNOW i will replace them ASAP anyway…
these will do for the tournament, I will concentrate on getting the CDs up and running and painted to a happy standard and then i will sell them off/trade them and buy proper Hobgoblins
I enjoyed your introduction, and I’m sure I will be enjoying this blog for your new old army
Interesting choice of colors on your old army…have you decided yet on a particular color choice for the 4th edition Big Hat models? You mentioned metal colors for the armor (which sounds nice)…but what colors for the Hats?
As i can’t upload completed pictures till tuesday, i though i would add in the WIPs here…
So, I’ve gone for a metal on the scale mail and a light brass elsewhere…
I have included green and red as a nod to the old colour scheme, hopefully without overpowering it…
Opinions welcomes as always
EDIT: just to point out that i use Facebook as a “host” for these pictures to be uploaded here, so those on the Facebook will always see my pictures 2/3 days before upload
I like the green and red. it’s a bold choice, but I think it looks cool. But I would give both ends of the axe handle and the banner poles a heavy amount of black wash. Or perhaps some thin black flames patterns to break it up at bit, because right now they are very much “in your face”. For me the large “flat” green areas steal focus.
What haave you done with the metal flames under the bulls heads? That colour is really nice! And looks like something my warmachines need.
