Willmark:

I had a dwarf, elf, orc and empire fleet but bave them to my cousin after teaching him to play definately a great intro game MoW.I would be tempted to buy a CDfleet they go quite cheap

Canix
Shhhhhhh don't say that too loud or SWSNBN will hear of it and start selling them on her site for $1,000 each.

Tallhat:

Would be great if they released it again. There is a chance really, since they even released Talisman again. And that is one seriously old game.

wallacer:

There is a pretty solid rumour going round that it will be released as a companion game for the new Mighty Empires fingers crossed

Tallhat:

That would be so bloody awesome!!

Willmark:

Tailsman is a friggin awesome game I love playing it. I rarely lose when playing to boot!

Mighty Empires is an interesting entity and has been around to borrow the English phrase “bloody ages”. GW keeps trying to morph it into various things. I’m hopeful for it, I believe it has a great premise and was fleshed out very well in the General’s Compendium.

torn:

I agree that they have limited scope for profit but it is these games that pull people into the hobby.

Gilzam
This is a superb point, and for the life of me I just don't understand why GW seem to ignore this fact.

It is board games like MoW, Space Hulk, Space Crusade and Bloodbowl that can and should be getting sold in normal toy stores alongside Monopoly and Risk.

Once people buy these games and discover they like the miniatures then bingo, GW's boxed game/gateway drug is starting to lure new people into the hobby.

Is this flawed reasoning on my part? I'm assuming there must be a reason why GW don't sell these boxed games in normal toy stores to lure new people into the hobby, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what this reason is.

wallacer
i completely agree with you. In fact i started with hero quest, like thionk most gamers of my generation did, then progressed to blood bowl (how cool was that granite pitch), space hulk, and then finally warhammer.

I dont think there is scope to get new gamers in te same way anymore. you go into a store its either 40k/fantasy or LOTR, all of which need a substantial amount of mini's (and rulebooks) to play a game. They should bring back a whole game in a box.

Tallhat:

Gasp! Heroquest! I had completely forgotten about this old pearl! That game was friggin Awesome it was!! I was always the Elf. He was way cool.

Skaven Lord Vinshqueek:

Well, there are indeed some of the old games Games Workshop created in a long-ago age, that they are looking into to re-release. One of the more easier examples would be GorkaMorka, where Andy Hall (the guy that currently is in charge of the Specialist Games) mentioned to be looking into re-doing for 2008 together with the release of the 4th ed. Ork codex.

I myself also fall in the category of always wanting to play it, but never having had the chance.

Do have the rules, but unfortunately no ships or opponents.

Greetz

Pyro Stick:

I bought one ship yesterday, the chaos dwarf one with the rockets on the front. Are the rules posted anywhere? Do you think you could scan them Vinshqueek?

zagor66:

Please post pictures or drawings of the ships…Im derperate!

wallacer:

Just look on the wiki, or failing that, eBay or Stuff of Legends.

Skaven Lord Vinshqueek:

@Pyro Stick:

I’ll get back to you on that one…

@zagor66:

Boardgamegeek.com has a ton of (colour) pictures of the various fleets, so if you’d look there for the Man o’ War game, the gallery ought to suit your needs.

Greetz

Kera foehunter:

thanks for posting the lilink skaven lord vinshqueek

AGPO:

ditto. I think they may re-release MoW but only if they redesign the ships, much as I love them they don’t seem to fit in that well anymore with 7th ed look

Willmark:

I on the other hand think there is even less of a chance of MoW getting re-released then a new CD army book.

cornixt:

I’m sure there will be a ship game, but I doubt it will be much like the MoW rules

Tallhat:

What were the rules like?

- Tallhat

AGPO:

Don’t forget they#'ve now re-done space hulk and talisman

Willmark:

What were the rules like?

Tallhat
They were actually well thought out, it is much like the space combat games in terms of movement, making turns, etc. One of the most important aspects of the game was the direction of the wind, since it effected most fleets to some degree.

Tallhat:

Sounds awesome! GW havent released the rules on their webby have they?
