[Archive] Minotaurs

Kera foehunter:

Well i was wondering why did not gw give us the use of minotaurs?

I think they play right in with the taurus and the bull centaurs.

They would that not be a coolest dow army for us

second are there still minotaurs played in the beastmen army??

BilboBaggins:

Beast of Chaos do have Minotaurs as a Special Choice in the Army.

Servius:

I dont see Minotaurs in Chaos Dwarfs mainly due to the fact that Chaos dwarfs make neither Marble or Hedge Mazes… I mean what else is the Minotaur supposed to do when not at war but aimlessly wander a maze eating folk who are trying to get the crap in the center.

BilboBaggins:

You my friend have WAY too much time on your hands to come up with that.

Renufus:

Minotaurs fit better with the Beastmen, to be honest. If Chaos Dwarfs were to have an Ogre-class unit, I imagine it would be something like iron golems or slave ogres.

The Snowman:

There is a link with Minotaurs through Bloodbowl isn’t there. I think Minos would make great ogre sized companions especially with a great ‘risen from the lava’ look that I can imagine (but not quite bring to reality).

Thommy H:

According to the Beastmen background, Minotaurs are guardians of the Herdstones, and so fulfil a religious role in Beastman society (such as it is). This would seem to preclude them from being favoured by Hashut. Clearly, too, their mutations don’t come from Hashut (like Bull Centaurs), but just comes from the same random Chaos energies that created the rest of the Beastmen. I don’t think they necessarily have to resemble bulls either (the Mordheim Minotaur just looks like a big Beastman), so there’d be nothing particularly special about them in the eyes of the Chaos Dwarfs.

My feeling is that they have no more attachment to Minotaurs than they do regular cattle. Not everything that looks like a cow is necessarily holy - only the stuff actually blessed by Hashut.

clam:

Think it’s a matter of fluff sources here. If you take a look at parellel Blood Bowl universe fluff - Minotaur’s are Hashut’s creation too.

LRB5 says:

'The greatest blessing Hashut can bestow on his fellowers in the form of the bull as Dwaven bodies are twisted and ripped open to form the fearsome Bull Centaurs or to become a terrifying Minotaur, both of which are frequently seen on the Chaos Dwarf teams. It is not unknown for those Dwarfs or Minotaurs who appease Hashut to find themselves waking up with tentacles, extra arms or heads. This never happens to the bull Centaurs, though, as Hashut considers this form already his ultimate blessing.'

So I think it could be justified adding Minotaur’s to you army?

...Dude, that's BLOODBOWL. That's not canon, that's anti-canon.

Bull Centaurs are a Hashut-ordained blend of Dwarf and bull.
Minotaurs are a Chaotic mash-up of bull, Ogre, Human, wolf, and god only knows what else. If anything, they're perversions of Hashut's glory, not manifestations of it.

Kera foehunter:

Well i think they be better than ogre as a dow for are troops

do the Beastmen still use them i have not seen a minotaur figure in a long time

Thommy H:

They’re a Special choice for Beasts of Chaos, and you can get Minotaur characters too.

Lord_Nagash:

Yes they are very much alive in the Beastman army. One of the guys in my group runs them and does very well with them.

Now I would like to see a giant in the CD lists, blessed by Hashut of course. Hmmm, I think I feel a conversion idea coming on.

Kera foehunter
They are only the best single unit in the list... possibly somewhat superseded by Chariots but hardly by much then.
Special choice, Core choice if you have a Minotaur Lord (Doombull) leading the army.

And Bloodbowl be damned, Minotaurs are intimately associated with Chaos and Beastmen.

BilboBaggins:

If the Chaos Dwarfs get a giant it should be the Slave Giant (Ogre Kingdoms.)

Lord_Nagash:

That is what I was thinking, a Slavegiant, but could still do a conversion on it to make it Dwarfish in nature as far as the looks.

Kera foehunter:

or a slave giant with a lamassu head i love that model someone made

or a gold bull head mask

mmmmmmmmm gold

cornixt:

If they do an armybook for CDs then they should really explain how minotaurs fit in (or don’t fit in)

Kera foehunter:

you mean when they do!!!don’t you Cornixt

Zanko:

CDs have  various greenskins as slaves why not Minotaurs, Ogres or Giants?

IMO they (Minotaurs) aren´t much more “unrealistic” than others, as slaves or perhaps allies?!?!

In a possible new Armybook there will be many changes I presume so why shouldn´t Minotaurs become a part of the great CD civilization? :o

IMO this is a very tempting thought! :cheers

Lord_Nagash:

I would do Minotaurs like Gorgers in a sense. They traditionally have poor eyesight and sniff out their prey, which is why they are in labyrinths. Ok, CD enslave them and let them out only in time of war to smell out the non CD as prey. Back home, they keep them in dungeons and throw hobgoblins that aren’t worthy of being slaves any more down to them to feed on.
