Tarrakk Blackhand:
It’s done…see final post for my thoughts.
(From before)
Yes…I signed up my store for it AND I am going to allow Chaos Dwarf armies to compete.
April 16th 2011.
Monster Hobbies - 127 3rd Ave SW, High River, Alberta, Canada - 1-403-652-5019 - www.monster-hobbies.com (See the Blog section here!)
Also, look for my placing on the Games workshop web site!
P.S. This is my first big tournament that I’m hosting, so I hope it goes well! I also will be making a You-Tube video for this!
furrie:
Good luck with hosting the tourny, its a bit far for me to come
Da Crusha:
That is Awesome! I always wanted to compete in ard boyz but I couldn’t find a place nearby that was holding it.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
It should be good!
Some of the basic requirements is that I need to have a minimum of six 4X6 tables, armies must be a max of 3000 points (Which rules out most of the local players) and…well, here’s the official GW E-mail:
The requirements to run a Prelim round for WFB ?~Ard Boyz are:
It will run on Saturday, April 16th
You need to have a least 6 tables
No entry fee
I’ve never done anything like this before, so I hope I can pull it off!
I’m also going to allow Chaos Dwarfs to enter with the RH list and current CDO erratta, as well as the new Animosity rules.
snowblizz:
While GW has allowed CDs previously, are you allowed to make that decision? After all, the rules for this thing (what little there are) should be the same all over.
nitroglysarine:
Darn you and your’e Canade location,
I’m at least a Continent away.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
@ Snowblizz - well, my GW rep said I could allow them. The choice of armies WAS up to me.
But I can see your point.

Just wanting to know how that works. So you could like forbid Deamons or something..? ;P
Hopefully you get some peeps. I know quite a few smaller stores have had "problems" with only maybe 4-5 guys showing up. There's still prices for the winner right? Or was it even like 3-4 guys, some guys I know concluded that in their store it was almost like you only needed to show up and you got the free stuff.
Of course not having to paint (still?) opens it up.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Well, I don’t think I could forbid armies, but I can include the Chaos Dwarfs…although I’m the only one that plays them.
(Too bad I couldn’t get some CDO merch to give away in this thing.)
Anyway, I should be able to draw a crowd from the surrounding “Foothills” areas like Okotoks, Black Diamond, Blackie, Turner Valley, Clareshome, Vulcan, etc, as well as Calgary and Lethbridge.
If all goes well with this one, I might sign up for the 40K one as well.
Anyone host one of these before? Any tips or suggestions would be helpfull!
Hashut’s Blessing:
Many congratulations! I hope it’s non-strenuous and utmost fun! I’d happily come and game, but I’m in England, lol
Tarrakk Blackhand:
ThanX HB! You should come over anyway!
It’s just across the pond.
Spent the day moving and spacing my 1 current 4x6 table around the room…yup! I can fit 6 of these in the building…but I have to take appart shelves and store the items somewhere until the Tourney is over.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Got the sign-up sheets for 'Ard Boys and 'Ard Boys 40K in the store as well as a big sign for the window.
My Rep says that my store will show up in 2 weeks on the GW site…the forms have to go to England before they are announced on the web. Should be awesome to get some “World-Wide Recognition”!
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Our store is now posted for 'Ard Boys on the Games Workshop list…and we have TOP BILLING! It pays to be in Alberta!
cornixt:
I notice that CDs aren’t one of the official armies like they were last time, so above store level you’d have to go with one of the other armies instead.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Yeah, I caught that too…I wonder what my Rep will say when I tell him, as he told me I could allow them.
I might have to dis-allow them if it means that someone will be under the false impression that they could take a CD army to the Finals.
However, even if I do allow them, chances are that I would be the only army with CD’s and I wouldn’t be able to play anyway. I’d be too busy hosting the event and trying to judge it.
But we’ll see what happens.
Now that GW has posted the whole 'Ard Boys package and scenarios, I wonder if it’s possible to play 1-on-1 games that don’t count for anything prior to the event to get people in tuned with the new rules and how their army would work out best and if their army is “legal”?
Also, I could always play my CD’s against them in such a game.
Tarrakk Blackhand:

Willmark:
Good luck dude I hope it’s a big success for you.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Me too! I could use the publicity.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Got the list full now!
One of the players hosts a wargaming club and in one phone call, he said he had @ 100 people that wanted to enter. So I only needed 6 and he got that for me. He can also bring the terrain from his club down. Looks like I might also get some connections from Calgary too.
I’ve been working on the gaming tables over the last few days and I’m tired!
- I’m hand sawing all the boards like a He-Man using my Grandfather’s saws and hand tools from @ 1925-1949.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
So…'ard boys is now over and I survived it!
It took a couple of weeks for us (My store) to get ready for the event as I had to clear product off my shelves in order to host the event as well as build and cover 6 tables. We just managed to squeze everyone in!
I also built up 6 individual models for Chaos Portals for the last scenario (the End Times). I’ll have to take pictures of these soon and post them.
Unfortunatly…like a dunce…I forgot to bring my camera and couldn’t return home for it. I wish I could have got some shots to post on my web page. I’ll know better for when I host the 40K one in August. It was lots of fun and I had a full house of 12 people! This was quite an accomplishment for our small store!
So now that I know how it all went and how to work things out, I’ll defenatly host other tournaments in the future!
