Interesting that you'd mention the status of bastards in Bretonnian society, since it's something I've been thinking about since I first read ASOIAF, back when I was first collecting the Bretonnians that I revamped for my current army. There's a bastard knight in there too, who uses monochrome heraldry to symbolise his illegitimate status. You'd think it would be something that GW would have used by now, but perhaps they're shying away from using a word that some consider a mild profanity...
