[Archive] My Daemonsmith!

Deragorh:

Impressive! Add me to the list, I look foward to any future work.

wamphyri101:

Amazing job mate. Would love to get my hands on one

Singleton Mosby:

Very, very nice. I am curious how you did this as well! And of course if there’s more comming where this one came from. :hat off

Taurian:

Nice pose, and I like the way that the sense of movement in the mini carries into the curls of his beard. Almost always the beard is treated as static and merely rests on the chest of the mini, but here it offers vitality. It’s also a nice touch to have those deeply recessed eyes; it adds a certain flair to him.

His legs could stand to be shortened a bit, which will strengthen the mini all the more.

My final note is that his facial expression oddly stands out from most other chaos dwarves. As far as chaos dwarves go, this guy must be about the most serene-looking individual that I’ve ever seen–at least he’s as placid as you can get for a guy with tusks and horns. Maybe to help counter the pains of the gradual petrification of his limbs he’s been doing some weed on the side. Or maybe he simply takes a devil-may-care approach and just happens to be as cool as a cucumber.

If this is to be made commercially available, please add me to the waiting list.

Admiral:

You’ve done a very good work on this 3D-sculpt! Areas where you may improve it further are the feet, which are bigger and thicker on every Warhammer dwarf (nice boots on the CD, though), and possibly the curly beard. Of course, in the digital render the new beard is fine, but will it suffice on a model? Your test model’s beard look pretty flat, due to the small detail. As for the feet, I believe the legs should be somewhat thicker, too. Your model is realistic in a manner suitable for Lotr, but some bigger feet will pull it toward Warhammer.

The hat, face and hands are splendid.

Unzul:

as I already said to you, this is a fantastic model… great job Yro

Grimstonefire:

As it’s all digital, have you thought about selling it as a large scale model as well? Say around 10cm tall including the hat.

Kera foehunter:

Ahhhhhhh he a cute little goat boy cd

I want one

Bolg:

Very cool, and its great to see that such a awesome model came out of this…

So much detail, stunning.

I Do think he is a bit on the tall side of a dwarf. I think if you remove the feet all together head body and Robe are about the right length.

And on a personal note; this is so annoying, I spend months learning a bit of sculpting to make my own models, and its all becoming clear 3D printing is the future, now I need to start learning 3D modelling programs. (grunts).

What program did you use and how long dit it take you to master it?

Admiral:

As for scale and height, place him beside some GW dwarf models and take a shot with the camera of them. As I’ve pointed out, your 3D-sculpt is realistic in the same way as Lotr dwarves are, although the feet still should be enlargened. This mean a little clash with the Warhammer dwarf anatomy, which in effect means that if you bump a dwarf, he might very well begin to roll. I don’t think this is much of a problem if the feet and maybe also the legs are thickened. After all, dwarfs are bound to come in a bit different shapes.

Take a scale shot please, maestro!

A 3D scanner takes care of most of that! I'm surprised that there aren't more Warhammer-style 3D models out there already, even if economical 3D printers aren't around yet.

zobo1942:

@cornixt - They are 3d printers available for a only a couple grand (botmill.com). However, the quality for lower end machines can be dodgy, especially when dealing with such a small final model size. Also, if you are sculpting a physical model in the first place, you could just mold and cast that, no 3d scanner/printer required.

Like using most pieces of specialty equipment, it makes far more sense to send your completed model/.stl file to a rapid prototyping facility - where you can get your model printed on a really high-end machine (like here: http://www.shapeways.com/).

I think that eventually this will replace the majority of ‘physical’ miniature sculpting.

gIL^:

Put me on this list ill take 1 or 2.

Yro:

Hi again, and thanks to all ^^

I’m soo proud so many CD players want a model! I think i’ll should be able to ship in 3/4 weeks!

@Taurian: i think is a devil-may-care approach indeed XD

@Admiral: totally agree! for the beard, I have your same fear. let’s wait for the final master ti arrive ^
^

@Grimstonefire: That could be cool, I’ll check for printing costs ^___^

@Bolg: I used pixologic zbrush. this was my first atempt with that program, but I work as 3d modeller and character designer since 2008

Akhakk:

I’ll heap more praise on the mini. Very nicely done. Love the expression and his pose. You can put me down for one too.

Bolg:

Blablabla....

I know, but scanners are way more expensive and I know of no one with one that I could use...

My local game dealer is thinking of buying a small 3d printer he claims the arent to expensive only draw back max print size is 15x15x15 cm but that is not a real problem for warhammer or Bunbun figures...

Yro
How was that learning curve? I do not plan to make sculpts as cool as you but only something in the line as this

grisnik:

Very cool indeed… doesn’t fit my theme, but I would second the need to make a bust out of this model… would pick that up quite quickly myself… something in the 70-100mm range with hat, beard, but no arms… would look great at that scale and painted up…

Congrats once more!

Hashut’s Blessing:

Very glad to hear that you shortened and broadened him as it looks great, but the proportions were weird. I can’t wait to see the final rendition (preferably next to a GW Chaos Dwarf for size comparison). That’ll be the time I decide, as well as prie and shipping, but looking like a yes.

furrie:

Any update on the progress.

Satan:

Put me down for one as well! Looks amazing!
