Howdy all, I thought this might be the better place to ask for continuous advice on converting my first ever army.
First off I would like to thank those that have posted on my previous thread as I found all of the advice helpful as it has helped me focus what I am trying to achieve.
Second as this is my first foray into tabletop armies and Warhammer in particular, I will be trying AoS as I have no previous prejudices or leanings. As such it looks like my venues to play will be my local GW store and another stand alone store, so I will try and stick with GW approved conversions so as to keep it as an option to play at.
So without further rambling here are some questions.
Ok, so I have found some of the heads I would like to use, the standard chaos warrior ones, along with marauders shields and shoulders.
Would marauder horsemen shields be to big? If so the regular ones are fine.
Would the marauder weapons/arms would fit?
As the standard dwarf warrior weapons are a bit too tame. The warriors I am have are from a previous mid 90’s edition. They have recently been born forth from the primordial soup, also known as super clean. They have been stripped of paint and I am currently in the process cleaning all of the flash lines. I will convert my crossbows into warriors giving me about 90 infantry. That would leave me to buy the fireglaive units as a gun line.
I will be looking to alter the armor with green stuff to make some scale mail instead of chain. I have seen some nice results with this and have some ideas to tweak it further.
Also as far as bases go it looks like I will go with round bases as this seems to be the way that AoS is going.
Can I make my own bases from would as long as they are of the same size/thickness? I am a hobbyist woodworker as well and have some great scrap would that has some great texture and grain that makes my think of lava flows or buckled earth.
Sorry for the wall of text but inquiring minds…and what not.
you can make bases out of anything in AoS thats fine. Marauder arms are a bit big I’ve tried them before. Not sure about Marauder horsemen shields don’t know what they look like. 90 warriors is a lot, I’d say about 20 warriors and 20 fireglaives is enough for a game that lasts 1-2 hours and allows you to take the LoA battalion special rules formation.
as far as basing goes, my advice is buy the 1mm hole circular magnets with a small hole in the middle, glue 2 to the underside of a gw closed face 25mm round , then put 1mm thick brass rod pins or an unfolded paperclip into the feet of each model and drill the hole down, that way you can slot your mini onto its base, its held by the magnet, and you can change from round to square easily. if you go back in time on this forum you will find a lot of us were making armies out of the battle for skull pass dwarfs in 2007 and has a lot of conversion advice/tips etc. xander even put a video series on youtube.
Thank you both. What arm/weapons have been used to fit the scale of the evil little guys.
And I have used some magnets with some 40k orks so that I could change their weapon load out.
As a side note, I did find that while super cleaner helps remove the paint it also slightly softens the model so removing the mold lines is much easier and I get a smoother seam.
For arms I have seen people use dark elf arms before. Check out some of the of the dwarfs from the galleries. But if you are set on using marauder arms cut off the should and use green stuff to sculpt a new one
