[Archive] My Warriors of Chaos....Sidetracked As I get Lost In the Warp

PsychosisPC:

Been a long time since I last posted here, been lurking a bit, but the time has come to turn it up once again.  Time to go to war with a new army, well semi-new army.  I’ve been marching to a Khorne beat for a good number of years now, with Khorne Beastmen and then my Khorne Demons.  My warrriors of chaos originally were going to be Khorne, then came the last edition of Warriors of Chaos which changed my plan, then came 8th edition which has further changed my plans.  Now the journey of expansion begins.  I have 1000 pts of warriors painted and finished from about three years ago.  This is my army in progress, a bunch of mutant and barbarian riff raff:

Have:

Hand weapon and shield Marauders, the centaur built from the old chaos warriors/empire horse has been cut from the roster.  In the process of building a new centaur with the newer chaos knight horses.

Small unit of Flailing Marauders:

hounds, old style metals, actually two units:

First of two chariots for the 1000 pt army, scratch built the chassis for this, then added the shaft and yoke system from the normal chaos chariot.

And the second chariot, again scratched built the chasis. It is featuring a huge guy that use to be an Aspiring Champion in the old book, you can kind of tell by the size of compared to the normal chaos warrior driving the chariot that the guy is huge, one of my more ambitious conversions. The legs I sculpted from scratch then used a blorc torso and arms, I think it turned out okay:

In my armies there are always models that get cut and this happens to be one of them, originally intended for it to be part of my 1000 pt Chaos horde, but it didn’t make the final roster:

So here is his replacement, it’ll be my sorcerer on a disc. This is really a true kit bash so far using parts from all over the place. I think it will be a very dynamic looking figure riding this ominous disc that I’m working on.

And his disc:

Knowing I need more marauders I’m bolstering the roster. I’ll add a unit of khorne marked ones with great weapons and yes they’ll be painted blue and orange, not straying from the color scheme. Basically anything chaos goes with my marauders, so alot of them are combined components of all the lines including beastman.

Here are the first few with the great weapons,

Da Crusha:

WHOA!! very cool units you have there! you must get awards at tournaments for coolest army and the like. your conversions really come to life and your paint. excellent work!

GRNDL:

Very nice painting. The touches of blue really stand out and add a ton of impact to the models. Beautifully done!

tjub:

Really cool conversions, love the disc! And nice painting as well…

PsychosisPC:

Thanks for the kind words guys. This a real work in progress as I expand out the painted 1000 points. I’ll be adding another sorcerer or three, have 35 more marauders on my desk in paint, plan to add some warriors, chosen, knights, a Hell cannon, warshrine, way down the road probably some chaos ogres and a War mammoth. This is a long term project that I have been meaning to get back to for quite some time, as well as build my orc army.

As to the question of have I won awards at tourneys, I have won my fair share of awards in the past with my Khorne Demons and Khorne Beastmen. The Demons won me a Chicago GT Best Appearance back in 2008, something I will cherish for a long time.

dedwrekka:

Some really awesome, golden demon level painting and converting in there. Very well done!

Shakhorth:

Nice conversion work and awesome paintjob. Love the unit fillers and the scratch build chariot.

Loki:

Totally Epic :o that is such a great woc army, cant wait to see it all finished

Ishkur Cinderhat:

Oh WOW! You can always take you time if you come back with minis of that quality after the break! Awesome combination of Beastmen and WoC parts. I particularly like the marauders. And the painting and base design are ace.

Gar Shadowfame:

very cool conversions, very neat and good painting skill, far abouve tabletop level

AGPO:

Wow, I’ve seen these guys on other sites but they never fail to blow me away. I’d love to know how you did the disc.

Xander:

I love all the various conversions you’ve made. I really like your centaurs (not shown here) as well.

I have pictures posted of some of your conversions in the Off Topic Hobby section in the stickied thread.

Keep up the amazing work. I too am building a WoC army, and your models have been inspiring me the whole way along.

If you ever make a Chaos Dwarf army, I might faint with excitement. I’ll have to settle for the Hellcannon.

Anno:

I really like your work.

You characterizes very well the thumbnails

Compliments

PsychosisPC:

Wow. Thanks for the responses. They are very much appreciated. I’m very much enjoying this army, its fun building things like this.

I do have a newer version centaur in the works, sculpting essentially a blank torso or four that I plan to cast and then add extra detail to, it’ll fit with the new Chaos Knight horse and utilize the knight arms similar to how a space marine works.

Onto more of the army…Knowing how important magic is this edition, I need a sniper, a buboes sniper. And the Nurgle Sorcerer WIP, Still need to work on the staff, to make it a bit more nurgly.

Adding a few handweapon shield guys to increase my unit sizes here are a couple and some of the other great weapon guys:

And truly a work in progress, basically we’re caught up to where I currently am with this batch of photos for the marauders. I have 35 marauders on my desk getting some paint. Progress is being made, slowly.

Here are some WIP paint shots of painted marauders:

This is pretty early in my painting process. The Fleshtones I’ve pretty much finished all of the highlights on, except on the faces. The steel is based and highlighted twice which is all the further I’ll go with the highlights, they’ll get a series of washes once everything else is done to do the weathering and further defining. The Blues are essentially done, as are the burnt oranges. I typically paint dark to light, building sort of a contour map of color. Leather is next. Fur and Hair will follow that, then detailing the paint, then washing the metals to give depth and corrosion, then a rehighlight of the metals, final touch-up and base work.

I’m also using a few choice pieces from other manufacturer’s mostly pieces sculpted by Tre Manor. This one is a Reaper Miniature, with no conversion work. I think he fits the bill.

PsychosisPC:

More work in progress, like the previous post, I have quite a bit left to do with these, very much in the early stages, but I’m liking the looks of them so far as they develop, so I thought I would show some of the WIPs. First up, some WIP shots of a Red Box Games miniatures. Tre Manor’s sculpts of these models are really good. They have really opened my eyes in how to successfully sculpt the exaggerated musculature of barbarians, something that really appeals to me. These sculpts kind of scream Conan which is also really appealing to me.

I have 8-9 of these guys, and boy they are easy to paint in my typical style of painting. They practically paint themselves.

This one is another Reaper Miniature, sculpted by a buddy of mine, Matt Gubser.

Its quickly becoming a favorite of mine, something about the pose, it will be positioned of on one of the flanks when the unit gets ranked up.

Note more stylized hot rod flames on a couple of the minis. This is another carry over from the previous group of miniatures in this army. I plan to carry the flames throughout the army on capes, banners, shields and tabbards and such.

The next model is another GW kit bash mutant. I really liking the looks of this mini, quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Dino:

Very nice. If your looking for a nice giant model that has the conan feal reaper is comming out with some nice frost giants.
