Don't forget people were unhappy with Tennant when he was first announced. Matt Smith was brilliant in Party Animals (a UK political comedy for those off our shores). People were up in arms about Billie Piper, then when Freema Agemann was brought in people asked if she could ever replace Rose. I won't even start on the whole Tait hate thing...It's no different than the many carnations of 007.. My father refuses to admit that anyone is James Bond unless his name is Sean Connery. To each there own. Each carnation of doctor/007 finds an audience. if you like the series, who cares who acts in it.. to be honest, I find all the old doctors rediculous, especially since no one could act back then, and all the crappy stage props led me to want to jump off a wall.
People are over-protective about Doctor Who, mind you I suppose its all about childhood memories, look at Harry Potter. Give Smith a chance, he might just bring something fantastic to the series

Dr Who is one of those shows that has numerous very good and very bad episodes. Some of the old ones were very well scripted and acted, but then suffered from awful props. I can always look beyond such things, but running away from a man in a rubber suit is silly rather than dramatic. It is said that transferring the old episodes onto DVD cost more than making them in the first place!

I wonder how hard it would be to touch it up with CGI? Even if it’s not full replacing, but simply… making the guy in suit look more real perhaps. CGI used to improve things is the best use for CGI in my eyes.

Moffat wrote all the cool episodes of the last three series, so I have high hopes. Let’s face it, when they re-started, they had a Salfordian famous for playing villains and Jesus as The Doctor, and an annoying ugly pop starlet as his companion, but it worked out OK.
