Good gravy, you’re off to a fantastic start! If the rest of your painting is up to this standard you’ll be doing well indeed. Be sure to keep us in the loop with your painting. The wings look fantastic, by the way! I’d love to attempt this on mine as I’ve been torn between how I might go about doing the wings on mine… sadly, I think if I attempted this it would not look this good and I’d be priming it again and starting over
Great start man, the model looks very cool. Welcome on board!
If I were to give some CC, it would be to introduce a color that contrasts the red hues the model has. The Taurus skin, the brass, the dwarf and the flame all have a very warm color palette, and I think the model would benefit from some more “pop”.
Some bright silver battle damage or edge highlight on the brass perhaps?
Wow, this is awesome feedback, thank you very much!
One word on the wings: Yes, this way of painting them requires very much patience, but not too much skill. I’ve already done this on models of a Nurgle daemon army, but never on such a large area.
@Yodrin: You mean leaving one as it is and painting one in bone? Could work out great, but it would be taking a risk. As Soulassassin pointed out: I’ve already used two warm colours. Bone the way I paint it (highlighting from Bestial Brown to Bleached Bone) would be a third warm colour. So I’d need to paint it blue-ish, which I don’t like.
@Soulassassin: Absolutely! Silver highlights especially on the wing blades. I plan on doing that when I’m finished with the rest of the army. I first started painting the bull and had exactly the same impression as you. I then painted the prophet and used some silver. I really like the colour scheme now.
@Herby: I really shouldn’t be taking credit for the base design. It is made by www.base-x-of-war.com/?Z
Next I’ll be trying to relay the scheme to a unit of Infernal Guard. Here is a teaser (won’t be showing his front side for some time).
Awesome job so far mate. The red dot pattern is rather eye catching, and that and the negative space Rune of Hashut break up the space on the wings really well. How are you liking the Defiled Realm bases? I just ordered up a tray with bases for my Blunderbuss unit.
@Yodrin: Can’t do that right now - I’m not sure on the colour scheme for the front. Right now I’m painting four more of his kind with very slightly different approaches each. I will then show them here and ask everybody’s opinion on which looks best. ETA unknown!
@Trupie: The Defiled Realm bases are simply AWESOME! I wasn’t too sure about those (for lack of a better description) ‘pools of tortured faces’ from the pictures on their site, but they help adding detail and variety to the larger bases. Also I should mention that as the bases are 3D printed (not cast) there is no need to remove any excess material. So you can start painting out of the box with no preparation needed (ok I washed them with soapy water just to be sure).
EDIT: Changed ETA - tomorrow is not a painting, but a Twilight Imperium day.
Do so like the dot pattern. The rune pattern caught me out as I didn’t see it except as an odd patch of striped highlights until after reading trupie’s post.
In reply to what patter you should pick I would say all of them As much as I like the FW models, I find them a tad bit too uniform when ranked up. Your shield and head swap in really effective, and I think the color on the rest of the models tie them together nicely.
