[Archive] New Lava gaming mat

Firehammer:

Hi,

http://gamemat.eu/ is a new manufacturer of gaming mats from Czech Republic. They are making sturdy mats with rubber backing, similar to mouse pads.

Currently they are offering 3 different 6x4’ mats (plus several 4x4’ mats), among them one of the best looking mats for Fantasy gaming:

On 1st November, they will release a new lava mat that will make every Dawi Zharr feel at home:

Pricing is , 64 each plus postage. I ordered the Fantasy mat shown above, had no problems with the delivery and I am quite happy with it.

What do you think?

Doombeard:

I’ve seen these also, good for when you need a quick set up or easy transport/storage, personally I really like them especially the lava one. I was a bit put off by the price but nothing is cheap nowadays I guess.

Wolf :

I’m think the price is fair the the detail can ease of use, I mean if you want to do you’re own lava gaming table.

For the materials, paints and other bits and bobs I don’t believe you’d be that far from the price for the mat.

I will be getting myself one or maybe two.

TheHoodedMan:

A Styrodur set this size will cost around 45 eur. And its plain and not colored.

So the mat is cheaper. But you’ ve got to make some fitting terrain.

Two questions:

1) is it durable? How much does it weigh?

2) does it lay really flat on the table?

JMR:

I have a gaming mat for Deadzone in the same material. I think it works fine. The lava theme seems to have a rather obvious repeat in texture however. You can see the same details repeated every few centimetres.

Skink:

I’m getting one! I don’t think I’ll ever play a game on it but I want to make some nice glamour shots of my CDs… and maybe send them to white dwarf!

Zuh-Khinie:

I read somewhere that it weighs around 3,5kgs (which in my opinion is a lot), and that it rolls out perfectly smooth thanks to the materials used in constructing it.

Personally, I play on my Citadel grass-mat (which has a cloth backing), which weighs a fraction of the other’s weight, lays perfectly smooth as well and which was cheaper to begin with.
