[Archive] New Medals - Dark Apostle and Hellsmith

Bloodbeard:

New Medals
A nice part of this community is the achievement system we have going with medals! Small tokens to show the honour in completing models, uploading in our gallery, making grand armies and winning competitions.

Today we are introducing two new medals to the site. Both were made by members finding time to help out CDO. Check out the Call to Arms thread and see how you can help the community.

The medals have been discussed in the Immortal Section (thanks for your input) and the Staff Section…

Hellsmith Medal
This beauty is designed by Enjoysrandom.

This medal is awarded for bringing new Chaos Dwarf models into the world. It’s awarded to the members who’re responsible for making this happen. A criteria for recieving this medal is that the models have been cast in a reasonable quantity and sold or given back to the community.
Bronze - is for making 1 model.
Silver - is for making 5 models.
Gold - is for making 10 models.

And as we have some excellent sculptors in our community we’ll be handing out some right away!
Gold: Baggronor, Rozmax and Admiral - with LKMiniatures and Macrocosm getting theirs upon completion of their campaign.
Silver: AtomTaylor
Bronze: Ravenswood (1), Grimestonefire (3)

Are we missing someone? Properly - then please give a shout!

Dark Apostle
This beauty is designed by Carcearion.

The Dark Apostle medal is handed out for bringing word of CDO to the internet. This community is driven by members uploading content, donating prizes, discussing rules and joining competitions. We want to award those members who spread the word of CDO. Link their own blogs in facebook groups, promote our competitions, commenting on other forums, bring in new members from tournatments and so on. For this medal to work, members will have make mention of themselves. Please keep in mind that CDO does not want to become known for spamming.

And to get the show started we’ll be awarding to bronze medals right away.
Both tjub and TheHoodedMan have very recently been directly responsible for bringing in new members to the site.

Golden Hat XXV - Voting
Remember to check out the awesome entries for Golden Hat XXV. The Voting Thread is live. So check in and cast your three votes.

Thanks for making this the best community on the internet. Let’s help eachother keeping it that way!

Bloodbeard - on behalf of the Staff.

TheHoodedMan:

The new medals look brilliant and thank you for giving one to me, I always enjoy medals.

The reasons for getting one of these are especially good because they help our community to prosper. So thanks to all involved :cheers!

Herby:

If memory serves me correct (and my apologies if I am wrong):
Sjoerdo sculpted an Asscannon that he has sold…and I believe that all of the Macrocosm miniatures were originally Sjoerdo’s sculpts as well (Macrocosm is just recasting them).

Bloodbeard:

You are right Fuggit! He has at least done enough for a silver medal, will ask him if he needs gold.

tjub:

Cool, new medals!

And perfectly fitting to this thread:

MalornDK has just claimed the Platinum Photo Gallery medal.

As every warmachine type, lords / heroes combined only count once. That is a truly insane amount of finished units! Very dedicated hobby work here. It’s also the first medal of this kind handed out on the forum.

I would like to encourage everybody to upload their finished units to the photo gallery forums. Perhaps we should link to the different forum galleries from the main page. I’ll try and find out how to make some links to them.

The Image Gallery medal (the camera) comes in three varieties and shall possibly contain a fourth in the future. Gold, Silver and Bronze again. To get  the Bronze, one must post 5 units within the Image Gallery / Specialist Games and Misscellany Gallery section of the forum. Silver is 10 and Gold is 15. Platinum is 20, Diamond is 25 and the ultimate Blackshard medal is given for 30! Any Chaos Dwarf -, Hobgoblin -, Fireborn -, Bull Centaur -, or slave unit counts for this as long as it is a new unit. All your characters combined counts only once, every type of warmachine counts only once each, combines emissaries count once, all complete specialst game teams counts once pr game (complete mordheim team, man-o-war fleet etc). All other unit types, only count once, no matter how many different units of it you post, but we still encourage people to do so.

Malorndk:

While I do appreciate the shout out, and would recommend other users to strife for the Image Gallery medals, the real hero is Zanko, who already have the highest the rank in the category (The magnifent Blackshard Camera Medal) and has done so by painting all his models himself, a feat that I can not claim myself.

Threadbare:

Thank you Threadbare. I've handed out the medals that was well deserved.

Here's some slaves for your help.

Bloodbeard:

We’ve updated the Army Medal critieria. Now you can earn an army medal making a legal list with the following systems:

LoA, Warhamer 8th edition

AoS, FW point list - free on their website

Abyssal Dwarfs, KoW 2nd edition

Infernal Dwarfs, The 9th Age - free on their website

This is done to include as many played systems as possible. Point costs are fairly similar across the four systems, so no one should be getting an unfair advantage in claiming the army medals - it requires a lot of work no matter what. LoA is the list we’ve been using these last couple of years - but that’s becoming hard to find. LoA is also the most point expensive list of the above, a tiny bit easier to get medals with than the 3 newer lists.

TheHoodedMan:

Good work :cheers

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Jackswift:

Awesome.  Thank you!

A question. Some KoW units have no direct equivalent, or could conceivably fit under multiple current showcase headings. Should we be posting them under closest equivalent option, or creating a new KOW Showcase thread to post them within with the approval of the mods?

For example the Obsidian Golems have no direct equivalent, but could be posted as K’daai. They are similar but not the same.

I have painted up a Fire Elemental (A valid KoW monster unit) should I post it up in the K’daai Fireborn thread despite it being a single model? Or the K’daai Destroyer thread? Or perhaps it fits best under the existing Allies: Slaves or Other, because it would be an allied unit in KoW.

Likewise my painted Hydra (doesn’t really equate to anything in WHFB. Technically it is an Allied monster if huge and massive. The model is Chaos Dwarf/Confrontation Mid Nor in origin. I could also post under Allies: Slaves and Other, or possibly slot it under K’Daai Destroyer. Perhaps we need a KoW Monsters Category for things like the Hydra, Baisasu (sp?) the Vile, and similar from the KoW lists. Thoughts?

Carcearion:

Hmm I was thinking about this myself while I think example a squad of golem/elementals fits well under K’daai the greater golems/elementals don’t fit well in either the regular K’daai for being too big, but are too small and not powerful enough to fit well into Destroyer. I do feel like they do fit as K’daai though. Perhaps a Other K’daai section? I feel like us KoW players aren’t the only ones to have more unique K’daai that don’t exactly fit into either catagory easily.

The thing is thematically I dont want to be shunted off into a KoW thread, I feel like a majority of us playing the Kings of War system do so in the Old World setting.

Bloodbeard:

Very good question guys. As I’m not into KoW, I’ll make a thread for this discussion. We’ll update some gallery names.

Stay put, thread will be up shortly.

As many galleries as possible should be shared. Like 40mm base (single model as sold, considering multibasing) k’daii, lesser obsidian golems (that some use as k’daii).

Bloodbeard:

Please go to this thread and help updating out galleries to include other/newer systems in an orderly fashion: Gallery Update discussion

Jackswift:

Suggestions made. Thanks for setting up that thread.
