[Archive] New to Chaos Dwarfs(2)

Glenn87:

Hi guys,

I’m considering buying CD’s, as soon as I sold my Dark Elves.

But I want to buy the whole lot in 1 time so that I get free postage.

So I started toying with an Army list and here’s what came out:

350 Sorcerer Prophet: lvl 4 (death), Talisman of Preservation, Enchanted Shield

155 Daemonsmith: lvl 2 (Fire), Dispel Scroll

160 Castellan: BSB, Talisman of (5+ ward save)

392 30 Infernal Guard: FC

542 30 Infernal Guard: Fireglaves, FC

205 Hellcannon

195 Dreadquake Mortar

±----

1999

Any comments and critics are extremely welcome (as I don’t want to be paying tons for stuff that sucks)

Zuh-Khinie:

I find the lvl 2 on a 'smith not worth it if you’re going to stick him with the warmachines. Just give him lore of fire - signature spell and be done with him. Keep the scroll though.

A slave-ogre on the other hand is very good for a dreadquake (not only for its wounds, but also for reloading).

The BSB can be better equipped with the talisman of preservation and the enchanted shield, and the prophet with the mask of the furnace, but that’s up for personal taste… I’m just trying to say that you can get both heroes a 4+ ward save without too much trouble.

I don’t have the books at hand to see how many points you’d lose/gain when shifting your wargear.

If you’re stuck for points, consider dropping the fireglaives and fielding regular soldiers instead, and buy a deathrocket to make up for the loss in firepower.

Also, great weapons are always worth their points on dwarfs, but you’ll have to drop some protection to gain the +2S (no models from FW for them though)

Anyhow, I think you have enough ‘boots on the ground’ to be able to play decently at 2000pts.

Glenn87:

I wasn’t planning of putting the lvl 2 with the War Machines tough

So with your tips I came up with this:

365 Sorcerer Prophet: lvl 4 (death), Mask of Furnace

155 Daemonsmith: lvl 2 (Fire), Dispel Scroll

180 Castellan: BSB, Talisman of Preservation, Enchanted Shield

380 29 Infernal Guard: FC

392 30 Infernal Guard: FC

100 Deathshrieker Rocket

205 Hellcannon

215 Dreadquake Mortar: Ogre Slave

±----

1992

(no points for GW’s tough)

Lava Lord:

:hat off Hi and welcome. With what Zuh-Khinie has said, that is a good 2000 army. It gives ya things to get use too and some basic familiar fighters. From here ya can expand into a larger army and get what your more comfortable with and enjoy…:cheers

Glenn87:

thanks,

I’ve red a few post already, and both the Chalice and the Destroyer seem like an auto-include?

Is this true?

moogoodoo:

welcome :cheers there not really needed iv had success with this list

sorcerer prophet level 4 pistol enchanted shield talisan of protection

daemonsmith level 1 dispel s

infernal castalian pistol mask of the furnace bsb

28 infernal guard blunderbuss fc war banner

20 hobbgobalins bows fc

magma cannon

deathshrieker

3 bull centaurs g8 weppons standard

hellcannon

total 1998

it dose ok usually but must admit i do use a list without the hell cannon and the bc and run a distroyer

Glenn87:

hmm, would these list do good on Tournaments?

Zuh-Khinie:

Another good thing to consider is to stick your prophet with your warriors. Also, but that’s tactics in general, it might be worth thinking about how you field your units.

A unit of 30 is normally fielded 6x5, which gives you a redundant rank and only 12 guys that can attack.
I field units of 28, which are deployed 7x4. This gives me a rank bonus of +3 (if I don’t lose more than 2 guys before I get in combat), but I do have 14 men that can attack, even against a unit with a frontage as small as 5.

That also spares you some points again that you can invest somewhere else, because characters are included in the above unit size.

It’s these sort of things that changes a list to a tournament list

Other important notes are:
-Magma Cannons are awesome!
-Like Moogoodoo’s list, either dump the hellcanon or the earthshaker (I’m personally a bigger fan of the 'shaker, but that’s up to personal taste again), because they basically do the same thing, but with a different side effect. This will give you more points free to invest in fireborn, a destroyer (always worth it imo) or bull centaurs… Bull Centaurs combined with a Destroyer is a killer-mix
-Always by a 'smith per 2 warmachines, and equip them with cheap usefull items like a channeling staff etc.
-Let your prophet march to war. Chances are good that he’ll get a decent close combat weapon, and lore of Hashut spells are short ranged… and he’s still a dwarf with a good AS, high T and a good amount of wounds.

nilbog:

I don’t really like the dreadquake mortar, but with a daemonsmith nearby it should be more reliable. Given that, what I’d do is drop the level 2 to level 1 and use the points to put the crown of command on your sorcerer. Put your sorcerer in one block of IG and your bsb in the other and you’ve got two stubborn blocks.
