Bloodbeard:
No! Noooooo! What the Zeppelin Captain became of the “it’s an expansion”. Speechless.
How can GW add this - the lore of undead. It’s now a part of every single official GW event. Never thought I would meet the day, where my gaming group would have to houserule “ignore the stupid FAQ”. they just made HeroHammer an official thing - not just a choice.
This is just lousy! They didn’t even fix the broken “steadfast” rules.
Thanks for sharing Sam. GW is stupid.
Admiral:
I wonder if this will be accepted by all tournaments. At least in the case of Sweden, I somehow doubt it.
Grollbringer:
When i read crap like this i became really scared about the 9. edition…:(.
Admiral:
When i read crap like this i became really scared about the 9. edition...:(.Well, if 9th edition's rules becomes a fiasco and the community decides to stay with 8th it'll at least save you money not having to buy new army books over again.

Doombeard:
I think I like it man, means I can use a SP w/ Bale Taurus in normal sized games if I ever get round to playing a game ever. Or take those two Taur’ruks & 2 Khans that were such a squeeze before. LoA list is so limited it unlocks some new potential. Agreed they should fix other broken things though before introducing new stuff.
Grollbringer:
I’m afraid that would only divide the community. even restrictions in tournaments for example ETC already leads to conflicts. How often i have read “this is no warhammer”.
Admiral:
I wouldn’t like it either. Sadly, the rumours have pointed to this wayward departure, and now it seems they might come true after all. Let’s see how it turns out first, and see if it actually impacts the fun of the game experience negatively.
Still, I’m a bit sceptical. I very much liked what GW did with 8th despite its warts, not least steadfast+BSB+general’s leadership combo that renders psychology irrelevant. To me, 8th is the best edition rules-wise so far.
TheHoodedMan:
I played Warhammer with the 3rd and 4th and came back with the 8th - and it was much much better. Such a stepback. Technical knock out in round 9.
MadHatter:
Yabbadabbadoo!
Finally I actually get to use the Chaos Dwarf Necromancer and Cursed Company! Cheap unbreakable fodder in front of our cannons, this is good
More variety, ah the fresh air is sweet.
Thommy H:
Yeah, they’ve RUINED WARHAMMER FOREVER with these three minuscule changes.
Time of Madness:

fattdex:
I do like that I could now fit those khan’s and taur’ruk in. Not game breaking stuff there, just a relaxation of trying to squeeze all the stuff in, but it will be pretty busted for some armies.
Geist:
Guys easy on the histrionics and the drama, having played in the actual hero hammer period I can say with out a doubt this is NOT hero hammer. The lords and other monsters are not nearly as nasty as they were back then. Every time you think its hero hammer recall 2 simple facts.
1 Most none named characters can not easily get 10 attacks at st5 or higher, most will be hard pressed to get 10 attacks let alone a st higher than 6 or 7.
2 Step up did not exist back in the day, as long as step up is there the nasty thing/character can be attacked he can not attack with total immunity.
Wolf :
I really like the fact you can now have 50% Lord and Hero, my next 3,000pt game will have a Lammasu and a Bale awesome.
My only concern is whilst I do not believe Hero Hammer is a reality due to the fact 8th nuked most of the un-killable hero?Ts. I do believe that a new age of Magic Hammer is upon us though.
You take the new Nagash book, all the major Heroes are Magic casters with the option to take the Lore of Undeath (bring mass of unit on to the table).
Then you look into the new Glotkin model which has two riders, one who can kill everything Lord and the other is a????? Magic Caster, which I suspect just like 40K and the DoC book, were you can summon new units to fight. As such I wouldn’t be surprised if the new Chaos Book, allows you to summon hordes of Chaos minions.
In fact I wouldn?Tt be surprised if they even have a new spell, were you can summon reinforcements from a portal (stargate), been able to bring on to the table new units such as the Blight Knights.
If this is the new direction which GW think will increase their sales in WHFB, will only result in who has the most new plastic kits wins.
Which IMHO, will make the game another cooperate copy of pokomon game where you have to ?ogot to catch them all? spend spend spend Very Sad.
Thoughts?
Malorndk:
I kinda like it. I’m rarely gonna get two lords, but the extra hero points will be good.
I don’t fear what big enemy models and spellcasters will do. With steadfast and big units I can handle it.
The only thing I’m not as happy about is the possibility of character enchanced Death Stars. If they are build the right way, the can become very hard to handle. But I’m ready for the changes and the challenges. Will be fun.
I’ll concur to Geist’s opinion about this not being hero hammer yet. Even with combined profiled monsters.
tjub:
With every change there is a “OMG the game is totally broken!1!!” etc… Personally I think 50% will allow a bigger difference/variation in army composition. And sure WFB never had necromancy as a common lore, but then again most fantasy setting has so I don’t fint it that hard to relate to. I welcome the new edition/rules and Im interested to see what it’ll bring hobby wise.
GWs a company, yes they do want you to buy as much stuff as possible. WFB is not a human right…
My two cents.
Admiral:
Besides, how do 40k players find the state of their game to be?
I hardly play 40k so I’m not in the know. I’m more into it for background and models. Flavourwise I welcomed the torrent of mini-codices to 40k, but how did it affect the game? WHFB 9th might move somewhat in that direction if rumours and the new FAQ are any indicators to go by.
Admiral:
Haha, yep, whatever the balance issues with the new edition might turn out to be (if there are any at all) it’ll be much easier to build themed armies. My brother could even use his converted Zombie Night Goblins as Zombies in a Greenskin army thanks to Lore of Undeath, with some spooky voodoo Gobbo Necromancer summoning them.
These kinds of “liberating” changes are pretty much always good for building themed armies. Content customers there, good for business. Let’s see how their merits are for the tabletop game. They could work fine, could be for the worse.
As for balance: With 7th edition in hindsight it’s always something that these changes are true for all armies. 7th edition was something of an orgy in broken armies and items. Remember Dark Elves, Daemons and Vampire Counts. 8th fixed that by scuppering most of the army-specific magic items and giving everyone access to the same arsenal. So if anything was overpowered, then it was overpowered for everyone.
sam585:
I welcome to the increase to heroes and lords for it now allows us to fit all the hero choices that we want, and not force us to take a prophet for magic (which in my case has always been an issue because I could never find the points for 2 lvl 2s with items+bsb+tauruk+khan would always be 100 pts over) Now essentially a lot of LoA armies will have 100-200 points left over to put in extra toys.
