Tarrakk Blackhand:

Hello again everyone!
It’s been a while since I posted an update on my hobby store after the High River Flood of 2013.
After 100 days since we were allowed to return to our businesses, the Town of High River, Sprung Industries, and many others, erected a temporary business park for us to start over and occupy until we can return to our original buildings.
On September 27th, 2013, the business owners, mayor, Town of High River, and many more, all gathered at Rotary Park in Downtown High River to cut the ribbon and celebrate the opening day of the new business park.
Prior to opening day, I had to construct the pegboard walls, (3 sections of 8’x8’ framed pegboard sheets) bookcases, tables and a hutch. The grey bookcase, hutch, desk-top and a 4’ circular table were donated by Staples Canada. Because the walls are made of a polymer canvas, we couldn’t screw them to the wall. Instead, I had to screw them to the plywood floor.
On opening day, I couldn’t get too many items into the store because I ran out of pegboard hooks…which I later found in a tub at home. What I was able to put up was the surviving model train track and buildings, the donated model kits and surviving model kit inventory, Warhammer models and the new Lego competitor kits. (Sluban, Cobi, and Oxford bricks)
Inside the large blue cardboard boxes on these tables are the models I was able to salvage from the store by pulling them out of the mud. I pressure washed them off, sanitized them and re-bagged them.
The mayor came by to inspect the buildings and here he is looking at the Cobi knight sets. By the end of the weekend, the Lego Competitor kits were 1/2 sold!
This is mid-week of the following week. I finished building my desk and applying the folding legs to the round table. I also put up my Halloween costumes from before the flood (These were safe at home in storage at the time of the flood).
The lease on the Sprung building says that we can leave to occupy our original buildings at any time. My original landlord says that I will be able to return to the new and improved Monster Hobbies sometime in January, so this 600 sq foot building will be my home until then.
He also sent me the blueprints of the new floor plan and there will be 4 stores instead of the original 3 and the building will have air conditioning as well as a wheelchair accessible bathroom.
Currently, the old building looks like this :
Should be awesome when it’s rebuilt!
