This is a modification of contest that recently concluded on Rites of War, and it was a lot of fun. Check out Rites of War while you’re at it, but I thought I’d bring a mildly modified form here.
The Concept is rather Simple. You choose to start a new army of 1000+ points or 1000+ points of Expansion to an army you already own to paint. You have 7 weeks from the start date to completely build, model, paint & base your 1000 points. You must update a blog with your progress weekly. We will start June 1st, and will use the Monday-Sunday week system.
Entering the Contest: Simply Make a 1000 Point list for Warhammer Fantasy Battles. PM it to Swissdictator with the Subject Heading “Paint of Die Entry” Your list MUST be accepted for you to compete. A general example of what I am looking for is 25 models as a minimum.
What can I have done before the contest begins? Your army may be built and primed with no more than 5 models fully painted in the scheme you will be using (Cavalry Models count as 2 models, 40mm Monsters count as 2 models, 50mm monsters count as 3 models. Anything larger such as chariots and larger monsters count as 4 models.) All other models should be no further than Primer. If in the case you are repainting an army this is acceptable as long as the scheme is different than the current one.
Do I have to do the Blog? Not really, but it is in your best interests to do so. At the end of the weekly Blog Deadline a public vote will be held to determine the weekly favorite blog. The winner of this vote will get a +1 to their vote in the final vote.
How are the Blogs going to work? This should be a stand alone blog, with “Paint or Die” in the title to make it easier to find.
Is there any other Perks or Prizes? Yes, the final vote will determine who wins. 1st place gets 20 slaves, 2nd 10, and 3rd 5.
Is there any other requirements? Yes, Just 2. One you must send a picture of your 1000+ points in its built condition but before painting, This is to assure you painted the army and that it wasn’t an old one you touched up. The other requirement is to have Fun!
On the List, What do I count and what do I leave out? Leave out anything that won’t be modeled on the final models. Things like wizard levels, scrolls, Magic Banner, ETC shouldn’t be included on your list. If it is… You MUST make an effort to model them. Example. If I was giving a unit the Griffon Banner It should be a Griffon Banner… not just a regular banner. So Freehand or Modeled in some way would be required… I will point out what you would have to specifically model in your list. Also Make sure the list is at least 1000 points. It can be more. 997 or 995 will not be accepted.
How much is the Entry Fee? Tis free! I’m not wanting to bother with fees/prizes right now. Especially for my first contest.
When does the Contest start? June 1st will be the start date. This will also be the date that the Contest Blog Area is opened.
When is the Weekly Blog Vote started? Monday June 1st will be the start of the first week. Monday June 8th will have the vote for people’s posts from June 1st-7th.
Who posts the Weekly Blog Vote?
When are the entries due? July 19th at 11:59 CST (GMT -6 hours).
July 20th will have the vote for the final week. July 27th will have the final vote!
I think this was one of the other things that almost made it of the ground over on HoH but they were going to do a tale of x gamers. I would take part in this if it was for 500 points, not 1000. You have to take into consideration that a lot of people entering this willbe making their chaos dwarf armies and since they have to be fully converted (most of them anyway) its going to take longer than it would to build 1000 points of a different army that already has models.
I may or may not take part in this. Most of my chaos dwarfs are undercoated and most might have about 5% of the paint job done so i could work from there if it would be allowed. I guess i could work on my Wood Elfs which i bought years ago and never painted up the few models i bought. Im pretty sure i have 500 points of them. Or i could start up my original army again (TK) which i have a few thousand points worth of unpainted stuff.
could be interesting, would have to decide on which off army to pull together as the cd’s are still in contruction. Although for 500 i could conceivably have the beginnin’s to the Dawi Zharr hordes.
I need a few things (namely the unfoundable greenstuff) to start again modeling and painting figs. If ever I have it before June 1, I’m in, with lizardmen if it is 1.000 points, or with chaos dwarfs if I’m not lazy and it’s 500 points.
A legal, playable (although slightly modified, no scrolls etc) list at 500 points?? or just 500pts of models… either way I could probable manage 500pts… 1000 would be a stretch this time of year. I will be away and traveling for the last 2 weeks of it though. Bonus points for early finishers??
500 points period. Doesn’t need to be a legal list, just pick an army and what you need to get done.
So it could all be Black Orcs, Bull Centaurs, a Death Rocket, Earth Shaker, and some Hobgoblin archers if that is what you need to get done… or a steam tank and 20 Greatswords. As long as the work load is fairly reasonable.
With this point size, if you take any big beastie things (Steam tank, Lord on Taurus, etc) that is worth a lot of points, I ask you take some cheap troops to ensure the workload is fair for all.
Any items/upgrades should be WYSIWYG… so if you model the scroll on the guy, you can have it. Musicians and Standards are always cool, etc.
I want this to be motivation to start OR expand an army.

Hmmm! that's only 24 models :D
- so you did change the numbers of models too. Sounds reasonable when it's 'only' 500p. I'm tempted to join in - a tenderiser and 20 foot-troopers ??
I'll think about it for a few days - not the best time of the year sitting inside painting - but then again summer can be quite 'wet' up here in the north ;) (And then there is IG too ??  )

Im not sure if i have the motivation to take part in this or not. Monthly painting marathins are one thing but a 7 week contest doesnt sound like my kind of thing. And im pretty sure i would run out of all the colours i use way before the finish. Ill have to think about it some more.
