Petition
TheHoodedMan:
It is well formulated and although I don`t agree with every detail I supported it.
Thommy H:
This is basically gibberish.
snowblizz:
If ya wanna waste your time am I to say something. But anyone is better off painting some stuff than petitioning GW for all good it does.
Admiral:
Regardless, is this kind of loyalty common amongst customers of other companies? People wouldn’t put up the time for such petitions (or indeed the time to complain bitterly or wish for a change of CEO) if they weren’t concerned for the company/still loyal to it. Strange though it might seem, it’s still a sign of how succesful GW have been with winning hearts and minds, even if it might have been primarily a victory in the past though with lasting impact on people’s connection to Games Workshop. I’ve rarely seen companies inspire this kind of loyalty.
Baggronor:
The guy makes some pretty impressive and very wrong assumptions about the priorities of other hobbyists. Not a pleasant read. :sick

Doombeard:
I don’t get where this whole over-analysis of the statement in their annual report comes from. It seems to have ruffled a lot of feathers, I think its hilarious how overblown and over-thought it is. So many fan-boys throwing their toys out of the pram. Worse than superhero/comic book fan-boys!
“We make the best fantasy miniatures in the world and sell them globally at a profit and we intend to do this forever”.
This is just a business executive speaking in grown up business language explaining to the shareholders in broken down very simple accurate precise terms what the company does. You have to break it down into simpleton talk for shareholders because we all know they probably aren’t all avid fans of the grim dark or Gork & Mork. Thats all it is. Don’t read anything into it, it needed a short simple to the point statement. Its an annual report not a business strategy. Anyone who reads too much into an annual report isn’t getting the point of the report in the first place, cold hard numbers. Everything else is just white noise and small talk as perfectly satirised by the current CEO’s casual talk to do with his wife, sadly that goes over the head of way too many people.
Theres this big collector vs gamer argument going on at the moment on Warseer and I think its again because people are reading way too much into things
Ps what does
"vice the pure sale of collectible miniatures."
Did he mean to put Versus instead of vice? the correct definition of Vice in the English language makes the sentence nonsensical?
Skink:
Gotta be with Baggronor & Thommy on this. This guy simply makes general statements about his experience with GW and what he thinks the mood about the company is.
torn:
completely pointless. In my opinion
1) games workshop makes the miniatures that will sell. they ARE the highest quality plastic miniature kits and because of that the most expensive. A good comparison is tamiya military kits, also very expensive compared the competitors but hogher quality.
2) he is right in saying the GW miniatures are really only usable in GW games, but, wrong to assume that people dont buy models just to paint them. My hobby is mainly painting and I play games just to be sociable.
3) The games arent amazing, but they have a lot of targets to hit and will always struggle to hit them all. Mainly they need to be open for beginners yet at the same time be engaging for 25 year veterans. Warhammer 8th sped the game up a lot and the random charge move added a bit of excitement to it, something I think it needed to be competitive.
Basically his petition is just a whinge because he cant afford to buy as many models as he wants.
TheHoodedMan:
I am little surprised about the harshness of some reactions :o
What`s wrong with some key points:
- Clear rules
- Support of local game stores and events
- Cooperation with the fanbase
But ok, nobody is forced to sign it ;).

Without having an opinion on it, I’d just like to chuck in a reminder that many other wargames, that are not skirmishes, have “slimmer” and simpler rules than Warhammer. Avoiding picking away casaulties and using morale counters is one such thing common to historicals and Mantic’s Kings of War. As for quality, historical producers manage a high quality on lots of models to relatively lower prices than GW’s. It could be a sensible approach to core units, but it’s up to market pressure and the internal workings of GW to decide what prices they set.
To me personally, the most important thing would be to revive WD as a proper content filled magazine. And prizes, but that’s not likely to change anytime soon.
cornixt:
Most the the petition seems to be “Invest in the hobby in the same way that you have done previously, even though you know it didn’t produce any returns”. Unless you are in aspirational lifestyle products (the prices are high, but not that high), or one of the bigger global brands (they are, but only in their field), it’s not going to happen. GW has cut back on all their loss-making endeavors.
A word on magazines today - they are dying. If GW was making money on WD then it would still be the same as it used to be. far wiser to put out regular articles online, with links to the appropriate products. It’s not enough just to show people what they can do, you need to tell them what to buy to do it if you want to make money this way.
hypnotix:
Well, you dont have to agrre with all the points of this petition, but I can’t understand how some people are ok about GW ignorance. Its not about money. Sure the prices are extraordinary high but I could live with it if the product that I buy is worth it. What struck me the most is how such company can ignore their customers. It’s XXI century, so communication never was that easy! GW is acting like garage based company in the 90’s. What good can come from developing the game in secret, not listening to the community, and completyly deny the existance of tournament scene. I can’t belive how that satisfy event the biggest hobbyst. It the rules was more balanced it won’t affect how the models looks and friendly battles with friend. Ok, the got this painting tutorials for some time, but why not make interviews with designers, videos with new models concepts, arts, possible rules cheanges etc. That would attract more people to the game and models and rise the income. GW cant’t survive with only model collectors as their customers. It is not possible to make good product if you won’t hear the market, thats obvious. Games days are accesible for minor part of players, and I haven’t heard that they ask there for community opinions about the game.
More and more people are leaving WHFB (mr Malorian lately) and it is a fact, not something you could argue about. Competion is growing bigger and batter, so there is no future for warhammer if GW won’t cheange its atitude.
Thommy H:
Yeah, I don’t think any of that is true.
cornixt:
The tournament scene is pretty small compared to people just playing with friends and at stores.
Skink:
The tournament scene is pretty small compared to people just playing with friends and at stores.Damn true. Also, a lot of people are in the hobby just for collecting and painting (like me). GW is pricey? Maybe. But they also produced the best plastic kits available on the market. If I think at all the time I pass building/converting/painting my toy soldiers (pluss the countless hours tinkering with background) I just realize that I payed a fair price for what I got.
