Grimbold Blackhammer:
When I read Fuggit Khan’s blog and how he feels abandoned by the hobby, I was disappointed at the prospect of losing such a creative and positive voice here. I don’t think it is said often enough how much the efforts of not only him but also a lot of the “old timers” are appreciated here or how much they’ve helped shape a lot of what we see today. I am a notorious idea-thief. I take the workings of what many vets here have posted over the years and use them to make my army my own. A lot of people but especially the folks who have been here for years and put in so much effort to create blogs for us to follow and inspire us but I often wonder if many of them actually consider just how much they are appreciated. Here is a random picture of one of my units…

I am pretty happy with the way this unit came out but as you can see, I designed it with a lot of help from others here. Whether it is tactics, army builds, paint colors, or modeling choices, a lot of the vets have paved the way for us in ways they may not have even realized. It’s a sad day when any one who has donated years of their attention to Chaos Dwarfs wanders away. But if anyone is ever feeling a little torn, I hope you know there are plenty of us who love what you do and are cheering you on from behind our screens.

Admiral:
Creativity here is an accumulative force, to be sure. I’ve nicked more ideas and got inspired by older fluff, conversions/sculpts and paintjobs made by older members (and newer members) here more times than I could ever count.
I’ll lift my hat to the site veterans any day. :hat off
Speaking of veterans, a special mention should be made to members such as Abecedar, Xanko, tjub and Grimstonefire. Old pillars of the community whose output has remained gorgeously steady, resulting in either vast collections with nice conversions or gorgeous variety of miniatures, or at least present a regular output of brilliant new projects which never seems to have lost its steam throughout the years.
Also, very nice Fireglaive unit, Grimbold! Though how about a statue up on each of those pillars?
Grimbold Blackhammer:
The old fluff spoke of the road to Zharn-Naggrund lined with pillars and upon each pillar stood a statue - a petrified Sorcerer who’s body had turned to stone. And in times of war, these statues were carried aloft into battle both as totems and to terrorize their enemies.
My original plan was to put petrified Sorcerer-Prophets on them but they become too tall. They don’t fit in the carrying case very well and I knock them over when they are on the table. So for now, the pillars stand empty.
I really don’t like unit fillers however only in this army have I allowed an exception. Traditionally Dwarfs remember every wrong ever done to them and write them down in their Book of Grudges. For me, as the Dwarfs long ago were changed into Chaos Dwarfs, that tradition twisted as well and my Chaos Dwarfs instead remember their victories. They celebrate massacres when they crushed their enemies! So to that end, whenever one of my units accomplishes something above their paygrade, I decorate that unit. So as this unit begins to accomplish great victories, those pillars will be adorned with broken weapons & shields, torn banners, and skulls of my enemies. It is really fun to play an opponent and point to a shield I painted to match the ones in his army that lays as a trophy on one of my unit fillers and taunt him (in good fun of course!) about it :hashut I am repainting my entire army so each unit is starting fresh with clean unit fillers again.
Sorry, moment of indulgence there…

I thought this was starting as some kind of allegory for those greats who have left the hobby after doing so many good things!
I guess we all turn to stone in the end, especially noticeable of those whose magic shone the brightest.
Carcearion:
Ooooh ouch Cornixt, that metaphor hit me right in the feels.
As a “beardling” on the forum, I have to say their are allot of elders here that inspired me to join the forum and collect CD in the first place, I’m a big Chaos fan and I have always loved dwarves and out of sheer curiosity one day I started poring over the wiki, then the Golden Hat Archives, which of course lead me to lurking the forum and seeing what an amazingly productive place it was and being blown away buy the sheer volume of great content being put out by members like Admiral and really anyone who was participating in the contests. Lurking the army blogs of members with really classic style chaos dwarf armies like Skink (most positive guy I have ever seen on any forum), Bassman (who’s awesome dark miniatures I only know through the Golden Hat archive!), and of course Fuggit (amazing classic collection with awesome conversions). If not for these guys (and allot of other great members!) I don’t know that I would have even gotten into fantasy wargaming at all (I’d still be trapped in my increasingly unsatisfying 40k bubble).
So thank you very much to all the old timers (from where I’m standing that certainly includes you as well Mr.Bestgeneral2012 and you Mr.Bestattitude2011) for still producing content (of any kind! there is so much done here on the forum), for weighing in with advice and encouragement, and even for just still being active members and participating in our ongoing conversations about wargaming and chaos dwarf lore.
:cheers :hat off :cheers :hat off

That is such a great idea! I've been looking for a way to collect trophies, this might be it :)
