[Archive] Pyro's Chaos Dwarf Collection: Square to Round Base Adapters

duktu:

Well that was the quickest renegade i ever painted. I posted the imagges in the Renegades Thread. If you are going to use the pictures for your avatar then please say in your sig or something that i painted it. If you are wanting different pictures then tell me and i will get them tomorrow. I have to finish my maths homework now.

Pyro Stick
That sure was quick. And don't worry, I was already planning to mention you in the sig. Man, you've got great skills! I wish I could paint like that.
Oh, and I was serious about the math ;) I graduated from university recently and I've had some math there (although I specialised in electronics). BTW what kind of homework do you have in the middle of summer? :)

Its not summer holidays in Scoltand anymore. I just finished my first week back. It a bit embarassing about the maths. It was the Straight Line topic that i was stuck on. Its sounds esay but its been made ridicolously hard. It doesnt matter about it now. I handed it in today. Thanks anyway.

Pyro Stick:

Heres the sorcerer that i started to paint last night. It should be finished by the end of the day. I need to make the base and finish a few details on the model.

As you can see i am missing his back banner. They are quite hard to come by but hopefully i will find one on ebay at some point. The model just doesnt look complete without it.

duktu:

Even without the banner he still looks awesome! Have you considered creating your own banner? I see that practically every mini in your collection is not converted, so maybe you want to keep it that way?

Nice color scheme. I think that someone (somewhere) said that blue doesn’t look good on CD, but I like it on this guy.

Pyro Stick:

I would have a go at making my own but i dont think ive got the skills to really make a good job of it. Ill hand paint what banners i can but i will wait and see if any banner poles come up on ebay.

I tend to use blue for my Sorcerors. The guy on the lammasu is going to get a similar paint job.

torn:

i like the blue i think it makes him different from the rest of the army, shows he is a sorcerer more easily.

The captain:

I told you it would be sweet painted and it really is! As said before, I think the blue, which doesn’t normally work on CD complements the model nicely.

Pyro Stick:

Ok heres the Sorceror all finished:

Any suggestions on what should i paint next?

duktu:

It says in my first post about my army being completely not converted.

Pyro Stick
Indeed. {free slave if you guess who said that :) }
Sorry for my mistake, the overwhelming amount of pictures keeps me away from text in your first post :P But I've read it carefully this time.

About your question - maybe it's time for a missile unit? You could either paint the crossbow-dwarfs or do the bases for Blunderbusses.

The finished sorcerer looks great! How long it takes you to do the bases for your heroes?

Pyro Stick:

Yeah i was thinking about doing the small unit of Crossbowmen. BTW the blunderbuss arent anywhere near finished. And remember there is also a unit of BUll Centaurs. I dont have a picture of them up but they are in the background of another picture. The bases only take me a few minutes. All i do for the lava is a basecoat of Red Gore, the some Blood Red, then blazing orange, fiery orange, sunburst yellow and then bad moon yellow. Some times i dont use all the colours. THe sand is just sand inked black then drybrushed a dark grey coloud with a lighter highlight.

clam:

The Sorcerer looks great - Pyro!

I would love to see those 3rd ed. models get painted - so please go for the Swivel Guns/Bazookas and/or the Crossbows:)

Pyro Stick:

Well i tried to paint the swivel guns a while ago and i just ended with loads of crew and i got sick of them. They are practically done. I think i wanted larger bases for them (40mm bases or something). Ill try finish them off after the Crossbowmen.

Pyro Stick:

I haven’t had much time to paint over the last week or two so ive only made a little progress on the crossbowmen unit. Apologies for the poor photos. I shouldn’t take such close ups because it does the model no favours haha.

Kyte:

Those are so awsome! It’s amazing to see how well the big hats fit with the marauders, hen painted in similar colours.

Thanks

- Kyte

Titanomachy:

Coming from someone who hates painting red (cause I can never get it to look right), I love the richness of their red armour. Mind telling me how you did that?

Titan

Pyro Stick:

For their red armour i pait it red gore, ink it brown ink, paint over most of it with red gor then go over that with blood red. Sometimes it gives quite a thin looking paintjob but it still turns out quite well.

update: 17 year old me thought this was a brilliant technique but i realise now it was atrocious haha. Nowadays i use mechrite red undercoat, drybrush blood red, wash gryphone sepia and drybrush blood red again.

Xander:

Looking sweet, loving the progress!

Thanks a lot Pyro, I'll have to try that when I start painting my warriors!

wallacer:

I like your colour combinations a lot, they work really well.

Father Grumpmas:

The red really does look rich and vibrant.

I have a few of the 3rd edition guys myself and was thinking of painting them in a ‘Khorne’ style colour scheme (red and brass) so I hope you don’t mind if I rip-off your recipe for red :cheers
