[Archive] Q and A for 'The Bellower' Ogre Webzine

Grimstonefire:

2 PM I got from someone, I thought I’d ask it here incase any of you guys want to do this:

Greetings from the Ogre Stronghold!

The quarterly webzine we produce (The Bellower) is looking at putting together an article which looks at the impact that the Ogre Kingdoms have had on the other Warhammer races now that 8th Edition has changed the way that Ogres (as well as everyone else) play the game.

We’re hoping to get some feedback from you as a forum moderator, or any other experienced Chaos Dwarf players you might be able to recommend, about a few things concerning your thoughts on Ogre Kingdoms armies as opponents.

We’re hoping to make the article all inclusive and feature responses from each of the Non-Ogre races so that we can get an overview of how we are percieved by other competetive players.

I’ll send a seperate PM to you with the list of questions if you would be interested in having a go at answering them, or if you know someone who would do a good job of representing the honour of the Chaos Dwarf community in your place.

The deadline for the next issue of the Bellower is in around a months time, so the sooner you could reply the more time we’ll have to badger all of the other races

Hope to hear from you soon!
Remember to answer these from the point of view of a Chaos Dwarfs player.

- What are your general thoughts on the Ogre Kingdoms, as opponents, under the 8th edition rules?

- Do you consider the Ogre Kingdoms army to be more (or less) threatening under the new rules?

- When you face an Ogre Kingdoms army what do you find to be the most effective tactic?

- What are your impressions of Gut Magic and how does it effect your games against the Ogre Kingdoms?

- If you could change one thing about the Ogre Kingdoms army what would it be? (Something you think that needs to be changed because it is too weak or too strong, or perhaps a change in something for fluff reasons)

Grimstonefire:

I’ll bump this so it appears as a new thread for you all (I started it a few days back in the Immortals section you see).

...Immortals section...

Grimstonefire
so it does exist after all!:o

  • What are your general thoughts on the Ogre Kingdoms, as opponents, under the 8th edition rules?

Many players think hordes are the way to go these days… even with ogres. I for one couldn’t agree less… Small ogre units of 6 are a lot better than big units of 12… the exception being Gnoblars, who really have become game winners if used in large quantities.

    - Do you consider the Ogre Kingdoms army to be more (or less) threatening under the new rules?

No, on the contrary… there isn’t anything (except maneaters and gnoblar trappers) that have become redundant in the list imo.
The scraplauncher has become a lot more effective, and I wouldn’t even consider leaving the house without one if I were to play ogres (and I do have an army of them as well on stand-by)…

    - When you face an Ogre Kingdoms army what do you find to be the most effective tactic?

Large templates and blunderbusses for the gnoblars, to get them running for the hills, and some heavily armoured troops for the ogres, keeping your flanks tucked in neatly with expendeables.

Pepper the entire army with earthshaker shots so that only the troops you want to see arrive first do so.

    - What are your impressions of Gut Magic and how does it effect your games against the Ogre Kingdoms?

Gut magic is awesome… looking at the amount of casting dice you get these days combined with the difficulty level of gut magic makes sure that gut magic becomes one of the most effective forms of magic.
Meaning: a butcher can cast a spell using only one dice, but the opponent has to dispell with 2 dice (since the difficulty to dispell will at least be 5+). This makes sure that the ogre kingdom player can whip out almost his entire list of spells, and the opponent really has to choose more wisely which spells to stop…

    - If you could change one thing about the Ogre Kingdoms army what would it be? (Something you think that needs to be changed because it is too weak or too strong, or perhaps a change in something for fluff reasons)

maneaters: too expensive for what they’re worth (but that was allready the case in 7th as well).
gnoblar trappers: when buying gnoblars, the normal kind are much more interesting (big blocks, ranks, decent stand and shoot,…)
