I’m a new to Chaos Dwarfs with only a Daemonsmith 90% painted. I’m currently playing games trying all the different options as proxy models before I splash out on my new army for the UK tournament scene.
How do you play the quake rule from the Dreadquake Mortar? It states ‘any unit taking casualties…’. Does this mean I have to do a wound? kill a model? or kill multiple models?
Any unit that loses one full model has suffered a casualty. So doing 1 wound to a 6 wound monster is not a casualty but killing a single spearman in a block of 20 is.
I guess I’m worried that it says casualties as opposed to the HellCannon that says one or more casualties. Is one spearmen enough to get the quake rule or do you need to kill two?

I guess - talking spearmen - it wont matter. Should kill a rather large chunk every time.
The only time it wont work out for you is when you hit a unit with multi wounds. If you dont do enough to actually kill a full model then the rule wont happen. In most cases it wont be a matter.
Sorry to open a reasonably old post, but I was trolling through the threads to find an opinion on the Quake Rule regarding “Dangerous Terrain Test”.
I?Tm just starting to use my Dreadquake Mortar in games and so a little unclear on the ruling. I like to believe this is largely due to the fact of FW?Ts long and confusing wording.
Anyway my question is: I hit a unit of Lizardmen with my Dreadquake Mortar killing a fair few, however on the next turn my opponent decided to move his unit, I pointed out that they will need to take a Dangerous Terrain Test. He responded with only if they Charge, March of Flee.
We had a quick look at the Rules and whilst my opponent acknowledged the comment regarding Character leaving a unit etc. He stated that the Rule is clear in that it states ?omust pass a test exactly like they were passing through Dangerous Terrain? therefore you don?Tt test for normal movement.
It is tough to say, but the quake rule claims you take the test if you move just as if you were moving through dangerous terrain. Not treat the ground as dangerous terrain or claim that you have to follow the rules for how units interact with dangerous terrain, its just if they move in the general sense, and by that I mean regular, reform, leave a unit, bob scratches himself, any movement whatsoever.
Now I can see this drumming up a pretty big argument and it can really go either way. However, its likely better if they just not march, having someone move at half speed is changing the game and giving you more rounds to shoot.
The dreadquake mortar’s rules actual do state if you move at all. So any movement will trigger the quake rule. Its very vital that you understand that there are two sets of special rules at play here.
1 Quake which states any movement will have the dangerous terrain rule put into effect.
2 Dangerous terrain. Which states what happens when you move over terrain that is considered dangerous.
The big exception here is that quake causes the dangerous terrain to activate. So while normally dangerous is only taken when you march charge pursue so on, this is a exception that happens with any movement. If it helps any look at flame cage and the many definitions of movement with that. A short list is:
Character leaving a unit.
Character joining a unit.
Reforming.
Character being killed out from a unit causing a model to take his place.
