[Archive] Quick dumb question

Joshmohr:

Me and my friends have been debating over this, so heres the quick question: if a unit, of lets say ork boys has 2 attacks (per boy), and is armed with a assalt 3 weapon, they get 6 attacks right? Not as a whole unit, but as a individual.

Tutankhankh:

Not quite - they get to shoot thrice, and then they get 2 attacks each in close combat if they assault. The “assault” part simply means that they can still charge the same round after firing.

Joshmohr:

Well, the book says assalt 3 means that it will shoot 3 times, but it you have 2 two attacks, they only can shoot three times, not six right?

Perturabo:

Yah. The number of attacks on the profile is for cc. Assault weapons are for shooting. Unless you play Tyranids.

Should even say so in the rulebook somewhere.

dedwrekka:

The Attack characteristic has no effect in the shooting phase except when noted in army specific rules (such as Tyranid bio-weapons). The same way the Strength characteristic of the model has no effect in the shooting phase, rather the strength characteristic of the weapon being fired is used for wounding purposes.

The notation on the type of weapon is used to determine the number of shots. For instance, an “Assault 3” weapon will fire three shots per shooting phase, a “Heavy” weapon will fire one shot per shooting phase, and a “Barrage D3” weapon will fire D3 shots per shooting phase.

Page 27 of the main rulebook covers the number of shots a weapon can fire.

Joshmohr:

Thanks!

Hashut’s Blessing:

In the same way as a character with bow can only shoot once and a repeater crossbow wielding character can only shoot twice, the number is the total number of shots. The attacks characteristic is for the same purpose (2 hand weapons effectively give +1A), but only for the close combat phase.
