[Archive] Rackham's Dwarf Mechanical Boar Riders

CheTralfara:

Well… since we do have rules and a points value for the mechanical boar mount created by the Chaos Dwarfs (it’s in the O&G army book)…

It would be really simple to add the points value for a chaos dwarf warrior riding on top of it, and use these miniatures as some really badass Chaos Dwarf cavalry, what do you think?

I’m in love with them.

WhyNotCrashDifferently?:

I’d be more inclined to use them as Bull Centaurs but regardless, those are amazing models and I’m totally jealous of the paint jobs. Totally spitefully jealous.

Khan!:

I don’t really see a problem with mechano-boars, but like WhyNotCrashDifferently I would just use these as counts-as bull centaurs.

Swissdictator:

Are these pewter or plastic? Also what pieces do they come in?

I could see how they could be used for conversions too. Plenty of opportunities.

Grimstonefire:

The models themselves are quite nice, but I think they need shields in that open hand.

With some heavy converting they could be made into bull/boar centaurs, but I think they’d be better as boar riders

wallacer:

swissdictator
I would think they're probably pewter. Rackham have only just started doing plastics very recently.

They are pretty cool. I would certainly use them as Boar Centaurs if I didn't already have a unit (mine are Rackham prowlers of the abyss).

Ghrask Dragh:

I think the prowlers of abyss make better bull centaurs, I think one of these would look good as lords mount.

Gaixo:

They’re metal, and the pieces are listed here:

They’re also bound to be officially OOP pretty soon. Though I suppose that doesn’t mean much around here.

Ishkur Cinderhat:

These are lovely models, as can be expected from Rackham, but I think they look like rather docile dawi - not nearly chaos dwarfy enough! :hashut

It does to me. I used to enjoy playing Confrontation.
It was a sad day when Rackham abandoned metal figures and went to C:AoR.

WhyNotCrashDifferently?:

Come to think of it, those would make excellent “counts as” Rough Riders in a 40k “counts as” Imperial Guard Squat army.

Anywho…

Sojourn:

oh man, thanks for reminding me I’m still looking for some Rackham models which I’ll likely never paint but will enjoy staring at unpainted none the less.

great minis… great paint job (curses to professional painters!!!) how many of these do you currently have?

Swissdictator:

Hmmm if the head is a separate piece…

The Impact minis mechanical centaurs come with extra Dwarf bodies (heads attached to the Dward body)…

If the boar head is seperate… don’t glue it on… get some Impact mechanical centaurs… use the extra bodies (perhaps… GS may be needed to give the right angle) and you have more centaurs.

On the plus side, I could also use them for DoW heavy cav too.

Revlid:

I’ve never much liked Rackham’s stuff. It’s fine for Daemons, or other things that don’t need to look “real”, but it’s far too stylised (putting it nicely) for my tastes when dealing with anything else. Take those Dwarfs - how on earth do they support their own heads?

Only a fan of the boars, and I can make them myself.

tetnis:

I feel like they’re a bit too steampunk for CD, they’d really look more at home in warmachine. Very cool find though.

tjub:

Rackham dwarfs dont really go good with GW dwarfs, unless you do as Snotling(I think) and use the possessed ones and mix them up… Rackhams is much bigger, but most of their models were great untill they started with prepainted! :frowning:

wallacer:

They’re not that much bigger. I use them with my GW CDs and they rank up alright. It is only the heroes that seem to be fairly big.

CheTralfara:

I guess this is threadromancy or whatnot, but since I never responded to this and it was my own thread…well i got something to say about it anyway so…

I just bought a pack of three of these guyz for only 11 bucks (75% off)!

They are having a sale at my local game hobby store on all rackham stuff they have left… also got some great beasts to use in my daemon army for ridiculously cheap.

It’s a shame that I couldn’t get 2 boxes for a full unit, but anyway, I’m really hating how huge the heads are (way off scale from the rest of my army)… so I’m thinking of cutting off their upper torsos and using the helmed heads for my robo-daemonbound chaos ogres (used as DOW ogres) in my dawi zharr daemon binders cult. Then I will replace the upper torsos with much more proportionate upper bodies from the plastic GW dwarf range… with a lot of greenstuffing…

Once again tho, it really is a shame I can’t get 2nd box of 3 more… Does anyone know where I could find another one for cheap?

Kera foehunter:

i always loved Racham figures they look so much like cds

or evil dwarfs

GRNDL:

Rackham models are cheap these days due to the change in distribution rights in North America and Rackham’s shift of stance in the models - going from metal to mostly pre-painted plastic miniatures. It seems that a lot of dealers are trying to dump their stock as quickly as possible before the market drops out completely.
