[Archive] Resin conversion parts - what's on your wishlist?

Kara-Nak:

I need some help here. Check out my army blog for my smaller scale sculpting project:

http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=9930

I’m not keen on heroic scale stuff myself but it occurs to me I could make some conversion parts for people to use. What would conversion parts be though?

Heads? Shields? Scale mail? Weapons?

Can folks here wish list some parts and I’ll see about planning some prototypes.

I don’t own any plastic dwarf minis so I’ll need to scrounge one or two from somewhere to get the sizes right.

When it comes to the scale armour I would sculpt little plates of it for people to then glue onto their dwarf minis (not individual mail plates, but a ‘left side’ and a ‘right side’ that would slot over whatever cloth or chainmail is in place on the plastic mini).

Cheers!

(Also if this is a bad idea, please say so!) :cheers

Admiral:

I do not know if the scale areas would be a good idea, but heads, standards, weapon arms and maybe also shields would be sure to sell. In particular arms with rifles (maybe with glaive bayonets, but preferably blunderbusses) and possibly also two-handed weapons would find a suitable market.

Characterful heads would probably sell as well, especially if including obvious hero heads, although not as much as the blunderbuss weapon arms.

Now, then, you should consider sculpting a few arms with different banners, possibly some musician arms and certainly an evil dwarf’s wizard staff (in your style, of course). An arm with a trophy head or mysterious object (maybe an angular, burning chalice or something entirely different) would make the kit more appealing.

Shields are always welcome, and although must people will probably prefer the Marauder shields for conversions, I’m sure that shields akin to those of your fallen dwarf phalanx could find some buyers. Be sure to sculpt a few rivets (which en masse can prove to be a sculptor’s nightmare) or raised details on the shield trims to make them more interesting.

All in all, I think conversion parts is a viable idea and might be worth a try.

Groznit Goregut:

Chaos Dwarf heads that could go on Battle for Skull Pass bodies would be good.

Fireglaives would be good, too.

Kera foehunter:

Big hats would be a good deal

also torso and the lower body would be great for some of us that make figure out of green stuff.

Ugly Green Trog:

For me some IG scale great weapons and BC scale great weapons and blunderbusses that replace fireglaves of IG. plus alternative helmets and conversion parts for regular CD that I can use for warmachine crew etc. Also +1 for the other suggestions of banners, big hats etc.

Goltor Lintrepide:

Blunderbusses and GW for forgeworld IG would be great.

deadlydeceiver:

Well mainly I can just second, what was said (descending by importance):
Blunderbusses and Great Weapons for Infernal Guard
Great Weapons, lefthanded handweapon, (maybe spears) for Bull Centaurs
Command Upgrade-Kit for Bull Centaurs (maybe including additional scalemail)
Tau’ruk-Upgrade Kit for BC
Manburner-Upgrade-Kit for K’daai
Ironsworn-Upgrade-Kit for IG (heads, shields, weapons, command group)

oh, and as Kera proposed: BIG HATS would be great :hat off

If you please ^^

This This a million times this!!!
:hat off

Possibly big hats and horns like the daemonsmith for the IG to. Would make some nice Ironsworn.

Zanko:

I would favour a bunch of different CD-Heads (perhaps BigHats, masks, 3rd edition style) in the right scale! Most spare heads you can buy are for Chaos Warriors and too small imo!

Kara-Nak:

Thanks for all the comments!

After a quick review of everything the conversion parts seem to be predominantly for the Forge World chaos dwarf minis. I was actually thinking along the lines of GW plastic dwarves being the main recipient of the conversion parts.

After looking at the available images online of the FW resins, new heads and weapons should be easy.

At this point in time I’m only considering conversion parts for dwarves. So, compatible with FW resins:

-Big hat heads

-Masked old school/3rd edition heads

-Great weapon arms

-Blunderbuss arms

gIL^:

Any update on this?

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Admiral:

Wouldn’t the heads be compatible with GW Dwarf plastics as well? Dwarf plastic conversions are more economic than FW Chaos Dwarfs, and might as such earn you a larger customer base. Weapon heads can be used straight from the Dwarf box, or scavenged from Chaos kits. Great weapon arms are not necessary for dwarf plastic conversions, and neither are blunderbuss arms, although arms for Infernal Guards would be economically viable. Hollowed-out blunderbuss rifle mouths would however be most welcome.

Actually I’m not too fond of a different manufacturer producing add-ons specifically for another company’s product as opposed to something more generic, but since I think GW should have provided older metals or such bitz themselves long ago I’ll be supportive.

I second this question

Kara-Nak:

I’m trying to get my hands on some reference parts before I start sculpting so it’ll be well into the new year before this gets off the ground.

From online images it looks like the current Dwarf plastics have the head attached the the front of the torso! You couldn’t simply switch between FW and Plastic.

When I get round to this I wont ever make any profit on it, I wont even use the parts myself, this was more about providing something to support the gaming community. The stuff will be generic I won’t be infringing on any existing designs.

Ill send you a full infernal guard, PM your address <3

Alakihel:

Can’t we make a kind of “donation” then you could affford one unit of Infernal Guards or whatever you need, then you’ll have more miniatures to work on.

Maybe it could be easier :hat

And, thanks you for such good ideas :hat off

Kara-Nak:

Well thanks to gIL^ for this - very generous. You’ve earned yourself a bag of free bits when the casts roll out.

Thanks Alakihel but I don’t need a full unit - one is enough to get the dimensions!

I’ll get some design sketches up soon with what I intend to make and people can help me select the designs to go into production.

gIL^:

No worries i got some spare. Community spirit and all that

I was wondering about that actually, since that's my biggest annoyance of the new plastic Dwarfs. And they are ugly.

Would it be possible to take old plastics and perhaps more effectively the AoW plastic Berzerkers in mind for this. Not sure how the new plastic/resin AoW Dwarfs would work, but that's another thing that could be an effective base.

I think offical forgeworld infernal guard, Reason because there widely available to everyone and are still offically GW so we are supporting the game with the conversion parts.

That's my opinion anyway.
