How do you resist the temptation of starting a new army?
It’s something we all have to deal with! I have been doing a decent job at sticking hardcore with my Chaos Dwarfs for nearly a year and a half now! But with new Daemons and new Dark Elves coming, how does one resist the temptation? I have always wanted a Cult of Slaanesh army… and with all the new models coming out… O_O
For now, I shall tell myself that the rules are not current enough (although that didn’t stop me for Chaos Dwarfs!).

I’m afraid I am terrible at this… I tend to just buy everything!
But I’ve been playing a long time and have every army available, and some (like pygmies, snakemen and the original Slaan) that no longer exist! I tend to collect everything, though I tend to play an army (and paint/create etc.) forever.
In my youth I joined mutliple leagues with different armies in each league, now, with gaming time at a minimum, I tend to rotate a bit more…
That being said however, my last 8 games have been with CD’s and I am trying to get enough painted to put them up for people to see.
I used to cave in and just collect all sorts of things I was interested in. But now I have a wife who thinks I actually need to put together “all the junk I already have” before I buy any more. But that said, I still end up buying more than I’ve even assembled which is why I have a ton of armies and no time to assemble, paint, or even play.
I agree with Xander though. The couple new things out make it hard not to buy any more. I’m particularly interested in what they’re going to do to the Dark Elves. I haven’t looked at the book for the Demons of Chaos yet, but I am at least planning on picking up the book in the near future, and I’m sure I’m going to be wanting to see what I can assemble out of the new book.
My method of resistance is simple, I don’t go in to GW when its not absolutely neccessary. I’m working my way through my painting backlog now and I’ve made some good progress. My last impulse army was CDs over a year ago and beofre that I’d done Hordes of Chaos for five years
perhaps, you should all invest in a new hobby… pampering your significant other with jewelry and gifts!? not that I’m dropping any hints or anything… Xander…
I’m not guilty of this with WH (well, sorta actually, but only for key items, like a spellsinger for my faerie army, or picking up other individual minis without finishing with ones I already have) but I’ve very guilty of this with things like books and video games… blushes
Cave in in my man cave! The missus says there is no more room and sebastian needs his bedroom now:D
I have been recollecting CD for a year now and am approaching 2000pts 4th and 5th ed painted although that still leaves the 3rd ed minis to paint .
Apart from painting some napoleonic french and babylonnian and elamites i have been quite focused on CD and havent bought anything else though i have been looking at nids and demons for 40k recently:rolleyes: must resist !!!
I don’t have the want for new armies, not the funds to start them, nor the time. As a result, I’m trying to get my CDs up to scratch and sculpt up some RPing characters and make and paint all of my current models. Saying that, I’ve won some daemons on ebay to augment my collections and add to my Hordes army (not using the make do list).
Easy; Iron Will. And being cheap. I have the money, I just don’t have the time. My only impulse buys are for eating out, cause I work too much. So I spend a ton eating out, as I hate fast food. (I think last month is was 600 or 700… maybe more, not sure).
But as for GW stuff, its the time involved. I don’t have time to put together the stuff or paint it, so its fairly easy to resist.
I usually succumb to new armies coming out, but once I’ve made a few models I generally stop doing them. Only a few armies genuinely capture my imagination enough to stick with them.
Sometimes I just need to get a new army out of my system, so I’ll buy a few models and see what happens.
In the earlier days when I got into the hobby I was more open to new armies than Paris Hilton’s sn^tch on camera.
Since then every time I wander over into the retail section of my local GW the scenario plays out the same every time.
“These new models sure look shiny. A fully assembled army would look pretty cool.”
Pick up a box, examine it alittle, trying to get a good look at the models. Then I see it.
“…$75 for Blood Knights?”
“…to hell with that!”
Cram the box back onto the shelf and head off grumbling on about how in my day GW didnt screw you over like they do now. I dont know about anyone else, but I like to be kissed before I get f*#%ed, and getting alittle affection from GW would be appreciated for the loyalty Ive maintained. Before that happens Im sure pigs will sprout wings, and the CDs will get a new army book, so it seems Im stuck feeling like a neglected girlfriend.
But Im not here to rant. So Ill get back on topic. How do I maintain fewer armies today? Bitterness, thats how, bitterness and spite for GW and its price hiking shenanigans.
I have most of what i need . But there are people that i could trade with . But iam not starting anymore armys untill i get rid of some iam not playing.
