Piccolo:
I wanted to buy myself a unit of 10 dwarfs of the fire canyon with great weapons and I noticed that there are two sets available. One of them is labeled as “Remastered”. Can anybody tell me how this “Remastered” set is different from the other one?
Firehammer:
In resculpted version, heads are already attached to the body, formerly they were extra parts. Also fitting of parts is supposed to be better.
Piccolo:
OK, thank you.
This message was automatically appended because it was too short.
Shub-Nullgurath:
Remastered rank up well whereas the ordinary ones don’t.
Piccolo:
I have one more question. The description of both sets states that the minis are larger than normal fire canyon dwarfs. Does anybody know what is the size difference between minis from these sets and lets say the ones with fireglaves?
Carcearion:
This pic from my army blog shows the difference fairly well:
From Left to Right: Great Weapon Warrior, normal Warrior, Hero, Great Weapon, Harqubus, and Normal Warrior

here is an army shot, left to right: Normal Warriors, Harqubus, Great Weapon

I recommend the orignal version over the remastered unless ranking is very important to you, the weapons on the remastered version look much too dinky in my opinion.
:hat off
Piccolo:
Thanks for the pictures, they helped me a lot.

I like the original weapons better too.
Carcearion:
Glad to help, I love these miniatures and I’m always rolling around singing the praises of RA’s Chaos Dwarves
Lol maybe one day they’ll notice and I’ll get some free big hats
TheHoodedMan:
I play FW fireglaives and RA Great weapons (original ones) in my army. No problem.
The ranking of the Great Weapons is not so easy, but it is possible. To simplify this you can use a unit filler. Normally I play them 7 wide in 4 ranks with a 40x40 unit filler in the middle, this is absolutely possible.
You should take a little care when positioning them on the bases, though.
Piccolo:
I will definitely take all the above advice into account when assembling them. :hat off
Carcearion:
TheHoodedMan has had the best luck of anyone I’ve seen getting this little guys in line
Something else that can help is magnetizing them to their base so they can be easily repositioned
Admiral:
Round bases work wonders for ranking up tricky miniatures on unit trays. A friend of mine got so sick of his Bloodletters sticking into each other with weapons and arms, that he first piled them on top of each other on the unit tray in an ugly way during a tournament, then afterward he got around to rebase all Bloodletters and magnetize their bases. They ended up on rounds not for 40k use, but for WHFB (this was before AoS). Since you can pivot round bases, ranking-up is rarely a problem.
Shame it’s not really relevant for 20mm bases, though. 25mm and you’re good to go.

I was getting a bit worried about basing my chaos dwarfs but I think your friend solved my problem for me. Tell him he's a clever, clever man.
Abecedar:
Ditto. Its a very good idea.
Admiral:
Told him! For aesthetic reasons it might also be relevant to create custom square unit trays for the unit, since there will be visible gaps were the corners would have bee for square bases. War of the Ring players often made their unit trays at home by drilling out the holes in the tip layer, then gluing it onto the bottom layer of MDF or suchlike. It should be enough just to glue in little diamonds where the squares would be and glue some sand or grass onto those. It could also be worthwhile marking out in the front and flank ends of the unit tray where the square bases’ corners would have been for reasons of easier combat solving with corner-to-corner fighting and all that. Just a thought.
Or just put them on a normal movement tray without special touches.
cornixt:
A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game, coming out at the end of this year, is a rank and file game like Warhammer that features all models on round bases but with circle holes in the unit trays so you can rank them up.
TheHoodedMan:
I think Lord of the Ring does the same. Normally in whfb and 9th age this isn’t possible due to base size rules. But no bad idea.
(And I am really curious what this game of thrones thing will be)?
Admiral:
Good finds, cornixt! That’s useful.
On bases in general, I think T9A needs to loosen up some base restrictions, or rather open up for some customization. I’m not in the know, but I’ve heard most other massed combat wargames aren’t much for base size restrictivity. This might be an unfortunate heritage from Warhammer to reconsider in some cases. There are a bunch of miniatures which should go on 20mm bases such as FW IG and RA great weapon CDs which only fit well on 25mm bases, on the face of it (speaking of Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs in general, I’m getting tired of picking the fat blokes up in the base and wearing off varnish and paint from fully converted and painted miniatures because they fill up the base entirely, so 25mm holds some allure). Not to mention FW Chaos Dwarf warmachines, of which the Dreadquake Mortar certainly doesn’t fit on the stated round base. I say this as someone who usually likes to have everything coherently based, and takes some joy out of aiming for the official base size recommendations when it’s sensible.
And also, why haven’t we yet seen a Vampire Counts Undead unit on 25mm bases to simulate corpses from Orcs, Gors, Saurii, Warriors of Chaos and so on? It could be an upgrade option which adds one toughness or whatever plus increase base size. This was an old proposal, but it might be time to resurrect it on T9A site. There is room for improvement in areas.
Green Knight:
I have the remastered version with two-handed weapons and they’re very nice. I’m very happy I got them, as I would’ve been very upset if I hadn’t been able to rank them up. These guys, however, rank up relatively well and look really good.
