[Archive] Scribe's Contest I

Admiral:

That translator struggled a bit with “Achtung!” :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@Bloodbeard: In none, sadly. We’re both equally good at bickering about it, though. :cheers

Admiral:

Behold the mighty, red Colossus, striding in flames and destroying everything in its path. Including Nordland.

Back on track. Should a link to bab.la be included in the announcement post to better help non-native English speaking people write their quotes? I find that site is useful for writing in English. Do you have other suggestions as well? This could be a good thing to establish early on in the planned Scribe’s Contest Marathon.

torn:

I have sent my entry. I should think it will be easy to guess as mine, but I actually really enjoyed writing these quotes.

TheHoodedMan:

How is the contest progressing? Can we look forward to some entries :)?

Fuggit Khan:

I sent in an entry, even though I suck at any type of creative writing x.x

Admiral:

Yep, we’ve got entries! I hope we’ll have even more before deadline. Remember the medal, the mini and the glory…

Abecedar:

Have got something ready, just trying to find some more , but words escape me…

TheHoodedMan:

I hoped I would be the only one for an easy medal and a great hero from titan wargames ;-).

Admiral:

@Abecedar: Keep at it! You’re sure to nail it eventually.

@TheHoodedMan: Even if you don’t win any this round you’ll have lots of other chances at medals and heroes in the coming months. But wait 'till voting is over first, who knows who the winner will be?

Malorndk:

I find this annoyingly hard xD

I want to make it somewhat funny, but the ingamem setting of the dawi zharr isn’t a humorous place.

Admiral:

There are toppling big hats, Daemonic big hats that eat Chaos Dwarfs, sneaky Hobgoblins, miscast Daemonsmithing run amok, wild Hellcannons, wild Iron Daemon drivers (“Brakes are for Elves!”) and lots of things with fun potential. See the background section for inspiration. They just have to be a touch grimdark and should fit the Chaos Dwarf/Hobgoblin mindset.

Also, it should be possible to make funny quotes about CDs from the perspective of other races.

Edit: Announcement of this contest posted on a whole bunch of Warhammer forums.

I hates you, I just wasted 5 minutes trying to find the definition of "ingamen"

Admiral:

Abecedar
Haha, no hate, please. I take it this is a common Australian way of saying things without any offense meant? Bear in mind such subtleties might be lost on us coarse and simple northerners. ;)

Malorndk:

<3

Sorry it might be a scandinavian LARP term. I just mean “in character” or “in the fictional setting”

bigdark:

Thanks for putting this competition together.  I really enjoy the Chaos Dwarf lore.  I don’t get to do as much crafting as I would like to, so this creative writing competition is perfect for me.

Wish I could have gotten in on the last crafting competition, and I am looking forward to the next Scribe competition… well any of the competitions are things I look forward to.

Totally pumped to read the quotes!

Abecedar:

Its so hard being an old fart trying to keep up with new words and slang

Admiral:

@bigdark: Thanks! We’ve got quite some nice entries.

We’re approaching deadline, ladies and gentlemen! Be welcome to write a few lines if you feel like it, and remember the allure of medal and model. Whether witty, serious, cryptic or cool, any quote goes as long as it fits the Chaos Dwarfs.

Abecedar:

Entry is in, meagre though it is. looking forward to a few nice reads.

Thanks for organising this Sir Admiral

MadHatter:

I’m in! :hat off
