[Archive] Seeking Design Advice [Anvil Iconography - 8/11/17]

Carcearion:

Hey guys! I am still hammering away trying to create some decent chaos dwarf styled iconography and I have been struggling to create a good anvil design to fit us. My own design skills are extremely limited (Lol the very reason i call myself a hobbyist and not a artist), I have been woefully unable to create a convincing “broken anvil” effect but failing that I have cobbled these together.

Do you guys think either of them are really sufficiently chaos dwarfy? would you put these symbols on a terrain piece or the side of a war machine in your own collection? I would be able to make these bits as small as about 6-8mm with the new material I’m working in (and as thin as 1mm), larger pieces would be no problem of course. Also of note I am no longer confined to plates.

Admiral:

Yes! They are wonderful. Both of them.

Enjoysrandom:

I think the 2nd one is best, but they both look good!

Bloodbeard:

The second one is the best one. The explosion there is closest to all the banners and emblems of the Big Hat era stuff.

Also the rounded shapes of the flames would be a lot harder to carve in stone, than the straight edged explosion.

Jackswift:

Well done. Both are great as is. I concur that the second is more in line with early edition chaos dwarf iconography. The second one is best. You might also consider making the anvil itself a bit blockier to feel more in concert with Chaos Dwarf styling. Cheers!
