[Archive] Shar'tor as kdaai destroyer

Zanthrax:

Greetings bros

Has anyone used the Shar’tor mini as their kdaai destroyer.

I am still playing 8th with my bros so have no need for him in AOS.

He looks big enough but would appreciate your thoughts.

:hat off

TheHoodedMan:

Difficult to contradict Admiral ;), but he is 100% sure not big enough. He is only slightly bigger than a normal Taurukh and fills a normal 50x75mm base (based mine on such).

On a 100 x 150 mm base he would look very very small.:hat off

TheHoodedMan
Completely agree with this! He would look waaaaay too small on a 100 x 150 base!

Admiral:

Haha, I misremembered his size apparently. Good catch, gentlemen! :hat off

Zanthrax:

Thanks for the speedy replies bros

Zanthrax:

Has anyone got a side by side of shar’tor with the other forge world bull centaurs?

TheHoodedMan:

Here`s a pic with the normal Taurukh which is about the size of the FW renders.

Lighting is bad, but you can get the idea. I would say he is a little more massive and a little bit taller, about 10% more size roughly (estimated).

Helblindi:

Good to know, I was kind of thinking about getting him as a tauruk.

Zanthrax:

Thanks bro

Horace:

Hmmmmmmm. Hmm. I was going to use him as my Kdaii but perhaps I need to rethink.

He is on a larger Oval base than the Centaurs and Taur’ruk. Do you think it could work with a funky base or really too small?

Admiral:

Perhaps if mounting him atop a dramatic rock, with fire and Daemons dancing around him? Or with piles of broken enemy corpses around his hooves and around the cliff? Shar’tor is Bull Centaur-sized as well pointed out by TheHoodedMan, but could possibly work as a K’daai destroyer with the right tricks. At least some oldhammer armies use small old monsters on their modern correct bases, and it doesn’t look half bad.

Perhaps some rudimentary mock-up trials could tell if it’d work?

Well here it is mocked up on paintshop with the base scaled to the correct 150x100mm. Width-wise I think it looks ok, but that is not really a surprise given it is only going from 70 -> 100mm and he is a bit of a chunky chap.

Length-wise it looks a bit worse, the rear corners I think are the main problem areas. the front will have to be built up anyway due to the rock on his base.

I think he could work well as a Destroyer and his scale is quite nice against my old metal army. I guess the only question is whether to cheat on the base and drop the length to 100 or 120mm or to get imaginative on the modelling

Admiral:

A little shorter base won’t hurt much if you deem it best, but why miss out on a good excuse to go to town? Skink’s K’daai Destroyer base is a stellar example of all the fun one can have with a big base:

Horace:

That is a pretty amazing base, I am not sure I have the talent to pull that off though

I am having a basing dilemma in general with my Chaos Dwarfs, can’t decide whether to match my existing armies or go unique
