WhyNotCrashDifferently?:
Yeah, it was a Norse landing colony type thing. I think I remember reading that the Amazons of Lustria originated from Skeggi, being the womenfolk of Norse sailors, or something. Might be I’m remembering wrong.
wallacer:
I believe it is the only remaining human settlement in Lustria.
There was another one but Mazdamundi trashed it
They’re too small to have an army probably, although you could use the Norse list in the Border Town burning to make a Mordheim warband for them.
Swissdictator:
They could always have some DoW Mercs as protection from the dasterdly Lizardmen and the Dark Elves.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
All this talk of “lost tribes” and unused figures makes me wonder what Warhammer is really about, or what it should be about.
When I read about this elaborate history and then see the mini’s and play from the rulebooks, I think there’s 2 different dynamics going on.
1 is the big meeting of 2 armies in a big duke-out and the 2nd is the “Let’s quest through the Warhammer World in a Dungeons and Dragons style”.
GRNDL:
As far as I know Skeggi was the town founded by the Norse Explorer Lost Erikssen on his arrival in Lustria. It was named after the first baby to be born in the town or something, who happened to be known as Skeggi. It was mentioned way back in the First Citadel Compendium (82-83 or so), in the Warhammer scenario “The Legend of Kremlo the Slann”, in which a slann brave was washed ashore at Skeggi and raised by the Norse living there. Kremlo grows up as a Norse Warrior and eventually the Slann try to get him back by force.
Since those days, Skeggi has been a Norse village in Lustria and Kremlo has been lost to us, as have the Slann really. Norse are obviously still kicking around as Khorne worshipping Chaos warriors, rule-wise, so you can make armies of them and such. Skeggi is still mentioned and still Norse, so that part of the fluff hasn’t changed.
alex:
i have the white dwarf with the skeggi rules in it, they are normal marauders, and they have rules for using skeggi marauder champions in your WoC army. The heroes wear light armor because of the climate, and basically imagine marauders with a junglie/ seafaring look i can show u some pics, i made an awesome skeggi tribe.
Swissdictator:
Alex: Please do, that would be really cool to see what you come up with!
Which white dwarf was it, so we can get the rules if we’re interested?
Kera foehunter:
i think that would be cool alex i also would like to see this
Thommy H:
UK White Dwarf 309 contains the rules for Skeggi Marauders, but they’re no longer compatible with the current Warriors of Chaos rules. Essentially, they simply reproduced the existing rules (from Hordes of Chaos) for Chaos Lords, Exalted Champions and Aspiring Champions, gave them light armour by default and allowed the option of riding Cold Ones.
It would be fairly easy to make a current Warriors of Chaos army that counts-as a bunch of Skeggi Norse. A Cold One could easily count as a Daemonic Mount (give your character the Helm of Many Eyes to replicate the Stupidity too!) and I don’t think anyone would object to Marauder Horsemen or Chaos Knights that are riding dinosaurs instead of horses.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Hmmm…another army to convert.
Skeggi were stupid?
Swissdictator:
Cold Ones have stupidity, so Skeggi riding them would suffer from it.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
OH, Ok. I missed the point that they were riding something.
Kera foehunter:
thanks tommy . I know in the gw U S they had something now i have to find it to!
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Are you going to build a model of it Kera?
Kera foehunter:
well it be kinda cool to do a 750 pt raiding army !
just something diffrent !! since i have dwarfs type armys
Tarrakk Blackhand:
That’s a lot of figs!
Kera foehunter:
well something diffrent !! pluss i can play this army with friend and family !!
Tarrakk Blackhand:
Don’t forget to have a Skeggi Town Pub!
Swissdictator:
Kera & Blackhand: Why not make a gaming table with this set up? It’d make for a cool little town and allow for some interesting combination of Norse architecture and tropical surroundings.
