[Archive] Smoke/ fog ( need ideas )

Kera foehunter:

Ok  as a slave unit  I’m going to use undead dwarf pirate :yar!!
Well you know me…  i  figured this would look cool  At least it sound cool with daemon control unit  It is the season of Halloween :o
But to get to my problem what would look good for a misty foggy base
as the figure would be coming out of

DAGabriel:

Hmm, not sure if I get what you want. Simulation of fog/mist should be a challenging problem. What about some gnarled trees, lots of spider webs and very thin wadding(?)/cotton. Something like the tattered cloth in this tut, only still thinner.

BTW, this could interest you, too:

This one could be good, too. Same technique sometimes used for spider webs:

Kera foehunter:

Well let try this for lack of words…

I seen some people made there Rocket launcher Bazooka teams have smoke trails?

this is what I want to do with these figures as the bottom of the base is Smokey ?

DAGabriel:

Ah, think the best I have seen was from steel wool made for scrubbing pots.

Grimstonefire:

People use cotton wool for smoke trails and smoke generally. I presume they stick it on after painting the models and touch it up here and there as needed?

GRNDL:

Use cotton wool and mix white or grey, very subtly, into all your colours. The colour change should help with the illusion of being in mist. Personally, I’d only do it on a display model - I think a whole unit might look kinda weird.

Thorne:

Rayon fibres work best for this

Da Crusha:

make a 40mm custom base as a unit filler, that you can fill with water. buy some dry ice before a game. add water and dry ice and enjoy a real life creepy fog for your game.

Kera foehunter:

But i like the dry ice idea it sound cool thanks Da crusha

But i think the cotton ball would work i have a ton of them laying around.

Thanks for all the help guys what would i do with out you.

The Odor:

About a year ago I made a Exalted Hero that floated on a cloud of smoke. I used a very fine cotton and used spray adhesive to make it stand. Now something I noticed was that it made the cotton moldable and then almost hard. I think it could work to make a fog layer that lingers above the ground.
