[Archive] Snotlings work for Forgeworld

Snotling:

Greetings, servants of Hashut!

Yesterday I took a closer look to the sorcerers from Forgeworld because they would make a cool crew for my Earthquaker-Demon-Cannon. I realised that the backpack of one of them looks kind of similar. I mean this guy

Pretty cool backpack I think. Well, by the way here is a sorcerer I posted two years ago in this forum

For I am just a humble little servant of the father of darkness I wouldn’t think about my influence on some miniature manufacturers. But there are some parallels, aren’t they? :hat off

I always wondered, if and how much this forum maybe inspires professional manufacturers of Chaosdwarfs.

cornixt:

I wonder a bit myself, despite them generally being told to avoid fan forums.

I came up with an idea for the basic core Chaos Dwarf warriors to be expensive units armed with very good armour and weapons, rather than the old idea of them just being like the regular core Dwarf unit with mundane equipment. I’m not saying that they saw my idea and stole it, ideas like that are pretty obvious if you try to move away from what has been done before, but it is nice when an idea of yours is used.

warh:

I think they got a lot of inspiration from here, a lot of there design’s look similar to older CDO stuff.

Baggronor:

but it is nice when an idea of yours is used.
It's nicer when you get paid for it though ;)

A lot I think, especially seeing as there isn't really anywhere else on the web for evil dwarf lore.

Thommy H:

I thought we knew the FW guys lurked around here a bit? Incidentally, should they be looking for a new writer, I am currently available for work. Just look at my stuff here though. Don’t read my blog where I admit to being a crazy person. That’s all a joke.

Time of Madness:

I know they lurk around here. When I was putting together the FAQ for them on behalf of the community they were given the direct link to this site/FAQ thread.

The majority of the FAQ questions were straight from this site (word for word).

wallacer:

It makes sense for a company to keep tabs on what their customers are interested in.

Some of the feedback in here should give them a pretty good idea of what CD fans look for in CD figures.

Willmark:

Rather odd that…

As far as GW staffers or FW guys? Who knows?

Obsidian:

To similar to be a coincidence!

So, since you been away a while too; what new CD stuff did you make?!

Kera foehunter:

They ripped You off shot !!!

but good to see ya made it back??? So where are you Backpacing now ??

Baggronor:

Pah, that's loyalty for you! ;)

Not to be pedantic but I think the title of this thread should be Snotling's work for Forgeworld.

theforgefather:

Really? I thought little mischievous green creatures sculpted Infernal Guard…

Just me?

Vardan Painkiller:

sue !

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Baggronorhmm... no! :P

Well I think this is only fair. Think about how many companies copy the GW-style or make conversion parts and so on. GW tried to sue a lot of them but without much luck, hehe.
This also encourages me a lot to work some more on chaosdwarfs again. Seems like I'm kinda good at this :hat off

Ishkur Cinderhat:

Come on it’s clear they use CDO as primary inspiration for their models. I mean the K’daii I made for Golden Hat XVI was a slender, tall firy thing with a mask held in place by chains… take a look at their K’Daii fireborn models from a few months later. You get the idea.

Now seriously… I don’t think they actually rip off, but designs can go into very similar directions when you consider the typical stereotypes of Chaos Dwarf technology, like brass, steam, fire, magma, black iron.
