[Archive] Something totally pointless: Legions of Zharr

Thommy H:

Let me know how it goes if you do. I’m actually turning it into a full army book now because I’m a goddamn idiot, but the rules will stay the same (except I might make Acolytes work like Doomfire Warlocks/Sisters of the Thorn).

Admiral:

If that really is the case I can tell you we appreciate your “goddamn idiocy” streak here. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thommy H:

It’ll be pretty slick and there’s some new fluff, but basically I feel like I’m messing people around every time I do something like this. I’ll probably put it up, but I’m past the “this is the definitive version of my book now!” thing because I think that the continuous work on it is actually what I enjoy rather than the finished product.

Admiral:

Nice. I can tell you that I as a reader, and probably others with me, appreciates the running work on it. A living project which pops up with updates every now and then is a hobby resource which don’t become irrelevant by age.

If GW ever want to produce an army book they’ll just have to buy yours.

tjub:

Are the Daemonbinder skill cumulative? And whats the base size of a palanquin?

Thommy H:

Daemonbinder isn’t cumulative - I’ll change the wording in the book to include “at least one” or something. Basically they only lose D3-1 Wounds if there are any Sorcerer Lords or Daemonsmiths within 6".

Palanquin goes on a 40 x 60mm base (i.e. taking up the space of six models). You can model it with two or four bearers - Immortals have 2 Attacks each so both can be justified!

tjub:

Played our first battle with your book yesterday, to the satisfaction of both med and my opponent(Skaven). I really enjoyed to be able to field a hero riding a monster again and cheaper basic troops.

We were missing some kind of summery at the back of the book.

And the sixth spell, the vortex. If I remember correctly it said d6 hits per rank, is it per full rank of 5(3)? It hit a skaven weapons team and we counted it as consisting of one rank i.e. it got a d6 hits, was that as intended?

…also, didn’t field a petrified sorcerer. But how should they be modeled? Should they be carried lika banner/palanquin or just on a single base?

Thommy H:

You played Fury of the Empyrean right, yeah. It’s D6 per rank, so if the target is for some reason deployed in a long column…bad luck! Weapons teams, war machines, monsters, etc. will just take D6 hits.

A Petrified Sorcerer goes on a 40 x 60mm base like the palanquin, but you can basically model it how you like! The fluff talks about it being carried, but mine is just on the ground with Immortals standing around it because I didn’t have the skill to do more than that. I know Vulcanologist used Thorgrim on his throne to model his though.

I don’t know how you’re getting on with your palanquin you showed a WIP of, but I think you could quite easily get away with using him as a Petrified Sorcerer too with the right paint job. Could give you the option anyway!

Oh, and needless to say the full book will have a summary at the back.

I’d love to hear more about how you and your opponent felt about the rules, the balance, etc.
