[Archive] Stupid question but I didnt know the answer

thewizardofoz:

This question has been answered before but I cant remember for the life of me.

Flying Carpet - does the model count as being mounted for the benefits of the additional point of armour and not able to be stomped.

I am pretty sure you aren’t counted as mounted as it only says “has the fly special rule” but the logical part of my brain keeps arguing that you are flying on a carpet.

Thanks Peeps! Slave to the first to answer, 10 slaves to the first who can give me a solid argument with proof to stop my wizard on carpet getting thunderstomped - lol

I'm afraid you wont get the bonus for being mounted, you can have the Fly special rule without being cavalry. Rulewise you need to have it specifically say that you are mounted, otherwise it's just not happening.

You can try this at home, stand on a floor and after that stand on a carpet, do you feel mounted?

PS: To your second question. You are playing a model with the Fly special rule, you can pretty much decide if you dont want to get in combat with models that can thunderstomp, just fly away from them!

Malorndk:

The carpet doesnt have a statline = he isnt mounted on anything model. He just have a magic item with a special rule

Dînadan:

As Jorma and Malorndk say, he’s not mounted; think of it as whenever he wants to move, he unrolls the carpet and jumps on and when he lands again, he jumps off and rolls it up :stuck_out_tongue:

In a similar vein, his troop type doesn’t change, so he should also be based on his regular base size

snowblizz:

FWIW, he might be holding the carpet rolled under his arm and fly around the battlefield. Or using it as a jetpack on his back…
The rules don’t say anything on the matter.

furrie:

Being mounted doesn’t even stop you from getting thunderstomped, only a troop type does that. From the top of my head only swarms, infantry and warbeast can be stomped/thunderstomped. Seeing as the carpet doesn’t have a unit type, it doesn’t change the unit type of the character.

Pretty much what I thought, just wanted clarification.

Have tried standing on a carpet at home and no don't feel as though I am mounted. lol

My wife asked what I was doing and I started to explain about carpets and mounting and she thought I was being dirty so has gone out. lol
