I guess you are talking about this one. I bought it the day it was released, and it is pretty cool. One thing though, these mats are basically massive rubber prints. I mean, the battlefield is just a “photo”, and there is no texture whatsoever (unlike the excellent Zuzzy mats, which however require painting).

Well, depends of what uses you have for it. Is it something that’s only going to see your kitchen table for the odd game? Or you plan to ferry it around all the warhammer clubs in Norway? You just want to take glamour shots of your dwarfs? Or you want to cut it up to make a display board for your army? On the top of my head I’d say that:
PVC: Cheaper. But Heavier, bulkier (you can only roll it up for storage purposes, and trust me, it 'uge), more difficult to clean.
CLOTH: Slightly more expensive and holds dust like hell. But is foldable (you can store it in your wardrobe or carry it in a backback), and easy to wash. You can even iron or hoover it.
From a gaming perspective neither should give you any trouble… Although I suspect that if you want to take some glamour shots of your minis then cloth has a certain texture that might (or might not) alter your photos.

You know the carpets that were used a decade ago on cars’ floors? The PVC mat is basically the same thing (without the furry part on top obviously).
It’s literally a massive sheet of spongy rubber with lava and rocks stamped on it.
