Grimstonefire:

As some of you had guessed, no doubt because they were listed under the photobucket account for Grimstonefire ;), I made the model you were discussing here

The model is around 9cm tall, 7cm wide, and will only just fit on a 40mm base (a 50mm base is perfect).

A WIP pic

More pics here, as I’m lazy.

My original plan was to sell this model through Troll Forged minis, but that has hit a few setbacks.

Firstly, I’m not entirely sure that Troll Forged is happy to sell it at all because he doesn’t know how much interest there is. Hence my poll above.

Secondly, the reason why I’m making this thread, is because he won’t cast from painted models. I didn’t think it would be an issue (especially as I had already discussed painting it (not glued) then sending the parts off…), but clearly it is. I have undercoated 4 of the parts for this, so I need to strip that off (if anyone has any hints that would help). I was planning on entering this in the GH you see, hence the reason why I posted that thread on warhammer empire under a different name. That is no longer an option now, leaving me wondering what I can enter now (as my other model would be a possible model to sell so cannot be undercoated).

Lastly, I have made moulds for 8 out of 13 parts, but the quality is not good enough for me to sell them myself (the price would not be worth the time). So I don’t want to waste more rubber and money making moulds for the remaining parts. Because Troll Forged said today that he couldn’t start making moulds for me until end of march/April, there is no way I could enter this in GH one way or another any more. :frowning:

On the plus side, if I can strip the paint off well, having this thread could be useful for feedback for when it will be cast.

I was planning on selling it around £25 and would be interested in hearing thoughts on that. It may have to change anyway once I discuss with Troll Forged.

Incidently, if people here happened to want to buy more than one, or if they know someone who is not on CDO who would consider buying it, please let me know so I can give TF a better idea of numbers.

fonejaker:

sign me up for one big guy

nitroglysarine:

I’d certainly take one. £25 is a fair price i’d say

Ishkur Cinderhat:

OMG GRIMS! Why didn’t you cast the parts yourself and paint a finished cast for GH? You could still have sent the original pieces to Troll Forged for reproduction and / or cast at least bitz and pieces for people here on the forum. I’m sure there would have been a lot of possible customers… but I know it’s no use lamenting this now.

Still, I can’t even begin to describe how much I would have wanted to see this beast in the contest. :frowning: I’m totally in awe of your skill with creating mechanical parts.

Baggronor:

Thats awesome Grim :o You have to get it cast and sold, its too cool not to. I can see why TF might be wary though, that’s a whole lot of moulds to make for one model.

Grimstonefire:

@Ishkur

Did you read my post above? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I could have made enough moulds to cast and paint, I could still (though not for GH now, lol), but to be honest the time and rubber required to simply take one mould is more than I want to do atm, and as I said, the time required to patch the casts up to a decent standard would not be worth the money I’d like to charge.

I could have been unscrupulous and charged a high price for cast parts where every rivet had a bubble…  But I’m not that kind of guy, I’d rather not sell it at all than do that, tell people to wait and buy it from Troll Forged.

If he refuses to sell it I’ll have to save up and have it contract cast.

I really regret not being able to paint it up for GH as well (it would have been awesome), but better to stop now and strip it than carry on and have even more layers of paint to take off.  I was planning on doing a painting article on it and everything for WoH (so I could mention it was going to be for sale even if I didn’t get it in by virtue of winning a medal ;)).  Sad really.

@Baggronor

I actually miscounted, it’s 13 parts.  Depending on how clever he is at casting the coal things could be glued down, reducing it to 11.

Edit.  Despite people not being able to see much on the undercoated parts, I’ll take some new pics tommorow so you can sort of see the changes.

KramDratta:

Count me in. That is just what I was looking for…

tjub:

Depends how easy it would be to remove the CD driving it… Atleast Id think about it for a while, its a sweet model.

I considered that point, but I think I can get away with just adding the top of one of my fat hats to it, should make it fit in :-D

Grimstonefire:

If you look at the cogs on either side of him, there is a thick bit of plasticard between him and that.  Between these two is the gap he sits in and it goes down to the black bit with runes on you can just see down a bit on the left.

So there is a nice fairly big gap where the driver goes.  I’ll take some pics of all the parts tommorow so you can see it better.

To give the driver no hat at all would be a little fiddly, as it touches the lightning bolts behind.  Certainly not  impossible though, for you guys (I’ll sell him as he is).

Grimstonefire
Hm. Well, I guess if isn't worth the time and money to you then you should indeed not bother.

I read your post, but frankly, I didn't get why you saw so many problems where in my view there really weren't any. But if you want to do either a 'pro' kit or none at all that's your right, this is your creation after all.

Thorne:

Grim no matter how much I love the model I doubt I would buy one for a warhammer army. However for a possible 40k or squat use I would buy it if it had some sort of cannon. I do love it but I wouldnt buy one.

snowblizz:

OOoooohh… that could work for a 40k Ork Dread as well right?

Grimstonefire:

More likely a Grot dread, as a Dwarf only just fits in. I’ll upload some new pics here later.

Kered:

I’m very impressed with it and your sculpting ability, but it just not my cup of tea.

I still how you get it in production, I can see it working very well in other various armies (warmachine, 40k) as well as Chaos Dwarves.

nitroglysarine:

I’m stunned we’ve got to 16 posts without a Godfather reference.

Grimstonefire
HAHA...sorry to blow your cover there Grim...I obviously had no idea. I think its a wonderfully detailed sculpt and applaud your skills and dedication to making such a wonderful piece. That said it doesn't fit with my MM90 based warband so it will not be on my wish list but I hope it all works out for you...it is an amazing piece of work!

Cheers,

Blue

Grimstonefire:

These pics show the current state of this. I need to clean all the paint off and generally do a once over to tidy him up again and finish some bits. Note the screaming steam whistle face.

In the pic of the bits you can see the gap where the driver goes and can probably guess how tall he is. So that would give some indication of the alternative uses I guess.

dncswlf:

Awesome figure mate, but not my style (not being a hattie :hat off ) Definitely worth casting and selling though! Amazing work! :cheers

tjub:

IMO the parts look great, would be cool to use as a big version och Astragoth!
