[Archive] the current state of gameworkshop, will it go out of buisness?

lokigod:

They are investing in new tech and that always a good thing for long term results. Although short term and divdends to stock holders will suffer because of this… I think there fine right now and I think the new daemon army will be major boost to there profits.

minty:

look, I still work part time at GW, and belive me, though there loosing money they are still FAR from bankrupt, factor in the new things they payed for, and ake out that cost, which was a major ammount of last years profits and that bar will be at least twice as high, probaly better

and about WD, it’s has been better, except this issue was LoTR focused, which to you seems to make it crap, the last one was 40K focus, and you didn’t complain about that

Ronshank:

Aaargh foot in mouth disease strikes again.

Once again I have spoken rashly. I checked the GW site today and low and behold BfSP is now $95. Gotta stop goin’ off on these rants when I haven’t reciently checked stuff :~ i’ll try to kerb the rants, well attempt to anyway. Damn my impulsiveness.

I’ll just run off and start writing lines shall I…

…Assume makes an A…:stuck_out_tongue:

BLOOD AXE:

Sorry Minty- I disagree. WD is not getting better. The 40K issue stinks too. Its pure catalog, no real support for the games.

Take an issue and count how many pages are advertisements, or catalog pics/price lists.

GW does not care about their customers. Constant price increases, “stealth/hidden” increases, no more rules updates, that crappy $6 Magazine(catalog). Even the exrtremely poorly handled Nemesis fiasco.

If you think $2.50 is a reasonable price for a tiny plastic Skeleton figure. Or $75 for 5 Black Knights. The YOU buy them. I’ll pass.

You are entitled to your opinion, Im entitled to mine. You work for them, so I don’t expect you to agree.

minty:

hey, i never said i liked the prices, i said WD was getting better, It’s still not a good mag compared to what it used to be, but it is getting better

and as for the knights of blood keep, i agree there FAR to expencive, but that sprue is loaded man, and I mean it, but I don’t think i’ll buy them, just convert, those rules are sick:)

Kera foehunter:

im with blood axe!! gw don,t care they would of brought out the chaos dwarfs …There just pulling us along. That’s why i play warlords more than warhammer!!! better figures cheeper armys.

Kera foehunter
warlords?

Malificant:

a great game from reaper. everyone should check it out.

Khan!:

I just went to the reaper/warlords website, and the minis are admittedly pretty cool. Right now I’m trying to find some cheap but decent monster minis (like giant spiders, hydras, etc) to pad out my collection for Warhammer Quest and this could be the company to do it.

Actually, now that I think about it I think the big problem GW may have is that its best games are the older ones that aren’t supported, ie Quest, Necromunda, Mordheim, Space Hulk. So to play the really good stuff you can’t entirely rely on GW. And I don’t want to fork out $50 dollars for a GW monster mini even if it is really cool… Maybe that’s just MY problem :~

Arlon:

if gw goes under warhammer will not die

its like dnd for wargames

the first stepping stone into a world of enjoyment

maby it will go to a company thats not public

but thats not the point gw been around longer than i have and rough times happen

Uzkul Werit:

These prices is why converting is essential if you wish to do the hobby on a sensible budget. My Daemon army would’ve cost me hundreds in metal but by using two Orc boxsets and some Miliput, it cost me much less.

Warhammer will not die as there is so much of it still around. If GW closed down think about all the excess stock that would be left in the world. GW may of had rough times in the past but it cant last forever and now that it thinks it is better than the other model companies and can increase its prices etc hopefully it will see that it needs to lower prices for it to stay around. Or, if it refuses to lower its prices, then hopefully it will go out of business once it has re designed the chaos dwarfs. Then i dont really care what happens to it. If there hadnt been any hope of getting new CD's over the past few months/years then i wouldnt of cared if it went out of business now. IMO as it is now, it doesnt deserve to be the company that owns warhammer etc.

Kera foehunter:

everthing must die .If gw dies something will replace it, or someone will buy it out and make a better

I was thinking about that earlier. Do you think the rights and moulds for Warhammer and 40k could get sold to two completely diferent people and go completely different ways? If it gets sold then do you think the rules would even get changed?

Arlon:

if gw dies i hope it goes to privateer press

great company great games great prices

I doubt it, the moulds produce models according to the IP, they are useless without it.  I also doubt any rules would ever get changed, or models. GW's biggest outgoings are surely development.  A third party company would simply keep replenishing the sock to reduce its costs and that would probably just about kill it off.

I've been collecting GW minis for nearly 14 years and sure, I remember when stuff was cheaper and they seemed to care more about gamers than profit, but, they've created their fanbase and they don't need to be cheap or 'lovey dovey' to entice more gamers any more. That's business.  Alright stuff costs more, but on the vast majority of occasions, the quality of the miniatures and the detail is so much better than it used to be.
