[Archive] The Death of Tarrakk Blackhand

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Hello everyone.

As you may or may not know, my store, Monster Hobbies was flooded out on June 20th, 2013 in the High River flood. (Visit www.monster-hobbies.com for pictures)

Before the flood occurred, my Warhammer Fantasy group and I were playing Blood in the Badlands and we had divided our 3000 point armies into three groups of 1000 points each. With these divisions, we were conquoring our Mighty Empires battle map and enjoying our campaigns.

I had my army units divided into three soda can flats (cardboard box bottoms) and two of these were stored in my supply room on the floor and one was stored on the back shelf, high up in the store’s gaming area.

When the flood happened, water rushed in at an extreme velocity and washed away those 2000 points worth of Chaos Dwarf figures. Tarrakk Blackhand, his Battle Babes, and his entire unit was destroyed. This unit included all my Blunderbuss crews, Hobgoblin Archers, Earth Shaker Cannon, and more.

Also destroyed were my unit of “Fast Attack”. This included my Bull Centaur Hero, two Hobgobin Wolf Rider units (25 figures), sorcerers, and more. As well as this, my “Spare Units” were also destroyed…including the Lore of Metal Lammasu and CD Sorcerer that I made from metal wire and Green Stuff.

As Tarrakk Blackhand was my first General (Finished the conversion in December 2008), you can imagine that we had a lot of gaming history together.

Over the 5 years that I knew him, we fought many countless campaigns together, many 1 V 1 battles, and a huge amount of “Personal Combat Challenges” and group battles against Chaos Warriors, High Elves, Wood Elves, Empire, Tomb Kings, Lizard Men, Skaven, Ogres, Orcs and Goblins and other foes. In the process, we met and sometimes defeated enemy generals such as Korhill, Goldtooth, Grimgore and others.

Yes, we didn’t win them all, but we went home, licked our wounds, reviewed our tactics and returned to fight another day with either a stronger or more balanced army.

We also explored all the different uses for power weapons, magic talismans, special armor, secret helms, mystical shields, special boots and more. Not everything worked well together, but some items were better than most.

Our exploits together lead us to many mystical lands, enchanted forests, mysterious rivers and bogs, high mountain peaks, and deep valleys. In the end, we always returned home to safety, ready for the next battle or exploit.

Sadly, on June 20th, 2013, Tarrakk Blackhand was lost forever, killed by an enemy that neither of us were prepared for. In fact, the enemy was so powerful that 80% of High River was affected by it…the flood waters that came in from the mountain peaks.

Now that he is gone, I am considering changing my user name and Avatar here on CDO to honor our fallen comrade. Out of respect for the dead, I don’t want to remake a new figure of Tarrakk Blackhand and try to pass it off as my fallen hero, nor do I want to continue using his image as my Avatar, having it carry on as a reminder of someone who has left us.

Tarrakk’s image and memory will live on in the CDO image gallery (Under Generals), but I feel that it is time for the grieving to end and time for new beginings. I will create some new generals and figures for the ones that were lost and set aside the models that survived the flood waters to form a new army, more powerful than the first.

As for the Tarrakk identity, I am wondering if it is possible for Willmark to transfer my post count and slave number onto a new “identity” or if I simply have to start all over again from scratch?

Also, does anyone have a link to the older Word of Hashut online magazines. I will have to look at that “Chaos Dwarf Name Generator” list again. I think that was in the first or second issue.

Thank you again - Trevor Ursulescu - AKA - Tarrakk Blackhand.

GeofreyShank:

You scared me for a sec, I thought you personally ad died.

He served and died with honor. He is with Hashut now.

What do you suppose a Dawi Zharr funeral looks like?

Zanko:

Tarrakk’s lost is very sad and hard for our CD community! :mad

I hope that there will be a worthy hero in your remaining forces so that you could field a new army soon! :cheers

I f you need / would like to get a bunch of Hobgoblins (you could see them in the gallery section), I will happy to send them to you! I only need your address! :hat off

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Thank you everyone!

I am personally still alive, but my persona is dead.

Thank you for helping me out Zanko. I am just curious if those the original metal Hobgoblins you are talking about? Also, are these your painted ones, or some unpainted ones? I’ll have to send you my address in a PM.

I’m just a bit exhausted today. I started out by taking a TON of hard cover RPG books I got from a hobby store care package a friend of mine gave me, up and down our basement stairs as well as mowing through a grass jungle to make a space in the back yard’s lawn with my Grandfather’s 1925 American Ballbearing Company Push Lawn Mower so I can set up a place to pressure wash some of the items I rescued from the store as they are all coated in mud.
It’s also hot one, something like 35-40 degrese.

Tarrakk Blackhand
Sadly I don't own the original Hobgoblins, I used Grenadier Orks, Ork Wolfriders, Goblins and Hobgoblins and some GW Orks. Like already metioned you can see them in the gallery section or in my blog.
The models are painted and based but not in a very high standard. :~

So if you would like to get them , I will send them to you! ;)

Just send a pm!

G.2:

I’m glad to hear that this is the death of the persona and NOT the real person.

RIP persona.

Da Crusha:

good bye personna Tarrakk Blackhand. RiP :mask.

Zargon the Black:

man that so unfortunate! if only it was a river of Magma instead of water… that would have been kinda epic! cough erherm and a fitting end of course <.< >.> <.<

Zargon the Black
Yeah, and they wouldn't have to tear down my walls or spray for mold! LOL!

AND I could claim insurance because that would be fire damage!

Bassman:

Holy Hashut!!! That’s a big disaster! I am happy to hear you are fine. Was your house affected by the flood or just the shop?

I wish you good luck and to be back to business as soon as possible!

Poor Tarrakk, Hashut will welcome him into his halls of glory! Next time you should build an army themed around Man O War, so your dwarfs could jump on their barges and float upon the water

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Thanx Bassman.

The house only got 7" of sewage back-up, which I was insured for. A few items were destroyed, but nothing too major as my wife, in-laws and myself managed to rescue up to 80% of the basement contents before we were evacuated. A lot of these contents were overstock items from the store. Man-o-War…LOL!

You know something…what if Tarrakk Blackhand had a surviving son he never told me about? After all, he did have some beautiful Chaos Dwarf Warrior girl friends he always fought battles with, and we never really had time to discuss our family lives in our adventures together.

I must travel the road to Zharr-Naggrund and talk to the high council to see if he left an heir.

I can’t imagine that the name of “Blackhand” would be extinguished so easily.

Tarrakk Blackhand
It looks like it can be done by merging two accounts. Create a new account and I'll see if the tool works in porting it all over to the new one. I'm always a bit worried about these things screwing everything up.

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Thanx Cornixt. It may take a day or two…I need to think up what my new idenity should be.

Something in the Blackhand lineage.

Ishkur Cinderhat:

Death by water - what a terrible way to go for a Dawi Zharr! :o

My condolences, Tarrak. We shall not forget this great lord and general!
