Sad news - I’m afraid:

Hello All,

Announcing the End of Olleys Armies

It is with much regret, infact I am gutted, that I have to inform you all, that we have decided to close down Olleys Armies. We came to this decission after much consideration and number crunching. As you know we have been in business for over 4 years and to this day still have tons of enthusiasm for making new models but, unfortunately we have failed to get a large enough customer base to sustain the business and give us any expectation of a reasonable profit. We have found running Olleys Armies a very demanding but rewarding experience and although we have both been prepared to work hard without initial returns we have reached a point where we can no longer justify the expense and time. I wish I was in a position where the returns didn’t dictate the future, but in our case they have too, so its bite the bullet time.

We would like to take this opprotunity to thank our many loyal and enthusiastic customers who have kept us going over the last 4 years and the fact is, if we had not had such support many of the models would never have been made.

Our exsisting store will be open for as long as it takes to clear most of the stock, so for a short while it will be business as usual, but without new models or restocks.

For the future, I can’t be sure at this stage whether we would be selling the business moulds and all, but if we do it would be done on a closed bid basis.

Finally, I intend to keep a small website open so that we can continue to display all the images of painted miniatures submitted to our our exsisting gallery and maybe even add more as time goes on. The cherry minus the cake, so to speak.

Best regards

Bob & Jackie

Olleys Armies News Letter no.15/2008

Obsidian:

Damn, that is sad news! :frowning:

Hashut’s Blessing:

Dang it. I was planningto buy some at some point, now if I want them, I’m forced to do so, ASAP.

AGPO:

I’ve never seen any of their stuff. Anyone got pics?

angryboy2k:

All the ranges are on his site at www.olleysarmies.co.uk

I’m mortified by Bob’s decision to close. His stuff has always been among my favorite figures, and I think love them or hate them, no one can deny his miniatures have character.

Bob has said that he will fulfill all requests for out of stock items and will spin the molds enough to make sure everyone’s last-minute orders are filled. You can read more about it - and Bob’s reaction to the fans - on Frothers. At least up until the thread degenerates into Internet catz pwning everyone Frothers Unite! UK Homepage

Anyway, if there’s anything you guys want, you should definitely drop him a line now, before his beautiful work disappears.

He has such cool stuff to

I imagine it’s really not possible as a private person to make a living only by sculpting selling miniatures… just imagine how many of them you would have to sell each month just to make a basic income of 2000 EUR to pay the bills!

It’s sad as a lot of creative potential gets lost but from an economic POV it’s just all too easy to understand.

AGPO:

Its such as shame he’s got some lovely work. I suppose if you lack GWs publicity machine you rely oon forums and shows to spread the word. It really is the store chain that makes the difference
